Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Question

I have just started here, and wanted to add my father. I know his full name and the date of his death, which I have added, but there are no matches. Can someone advise me please ?

If there are no matches sit means no one has added him before you, so you just continue down the form adding what you have. Finally you click the add/save button (sorry but I forgot which one comes up) then you will have him added and he will have his own profile id

Since there are no matches, that means he doesn't have a profile existing yet on WikiTree. So you can go ahead and create the profile! Just be sure to set the appropriate privacy level for any family that are still living.
