Are you sure William Stratton 1576 isn't really William Staton?

Help. Can't seem to find any info on William Staton, the supposed father of Peter Staton, from Virginia. This William Stratton lives in the same area and does have a son named Peter. Could it bet the info is incorrect? Can anyone help?

the profiles are sourced

what dates do you have for Peter Staton

spouse ? children ?

laughWhomever authored the profiles of the family (there's no PM)  has Peter b. c1775 and m. c1807 to Polly Street and the source on William is some book which maybe has some sort of sourcing possibly enough to obtain from other sites more acceptable sources ?

AND in any case the profiles are up for adoption and they are OPEN (white padlock)

laughFirst step for Karen, if she's serious, would be to adopty all the family profiles and then secure the marriage records of Peter and for his siblings if possible and to see if grave sites can be located and see if she can locate wills and land deeds and other census  ... etc

Going to take research to substantiate whatever info may be contained in that book

the profile she cited above is for STRATTON

She is looking for STATON

The STRATTON family is well-known and documented. She can't change STRATTON to STATON
Yes, indeed, Eddie, this is the case. You are maybe correct.  But the profiles are open, adoptable, and the LNAB could be changed.  There have been cases where someone came in and changed a LNAB without proofs. She would not do this of course.

Secondly, the source is a book. Can the information IN the book be supported by documentation? Has anyone vetted the information in the book?

As it stands, the book is the only source of information listed so far as I can see.

I'd call these profiles "barely sourced" and agree with Susan that someone needs to do some additional digging before making any serious changes.

Furthermore, all six children have a similar dob which is highly unlikely and was pointed out years ago.
