A set of 12th century German nobles with duplicates, LNAB questions

Question

Having proposed merges for a group of duplicates a couple of weeks ago, I would like to ensure that their Last Names at Birth are not too far afield.

- Adele von Orlamünde is a member of the family that would be called Aschersleben or Askanier. But, it seems they were only called that later than her, and that Ballenstedt predates Aschersleben. Which would be correct (for our purpose)?

- Her husband, was Graf von Peilstein. It seems that family is known as Sieghardinger (see here). Should Sieghardinger be used?

Obviously all the profiles in this group need a lot of work. They have no sources (they are referenced at FMG and could be cleaned up using that, for a beginning) and the names are, simply put, a mess. I would like to make sure we can at least achieve a bit of consistency with names to have a better basis for work.

The German Wikipedia page uses Sieghardinger, but the source it cites uses Sighardinger (with Sieghardinger and Sigehardinger as alternatives).

So are we saying the best option is Sighardinger and not Sieghardinger?

It looks like since there are different ways of spelling the name "Sighard" there will never be a definitive answer. I agree that Sighardinger looks like the best option.

I suspect Sighard (or Sigehard) might be how the name appears in medieval documents, but Sieghard is the modern equivalent, but I agree Sighardinger looks like the best option.

Thanks Isabelle, Aschersleben is not the correct name for this family and it should be Askanier.  Not sure where that name came from but it is applied to the whole dynasty and would be an appropriate Last Name at Birth for Adele, given EuroAristo naming standards.
