Lookup needed . Elizabeth Smith m. to William Ely, wasn't the daughter of Nehemiah Smith (currently on Wikitree). Does the Roberts book, indicated her birth date and parents?

Thank you.

An article in The American Genealogist came to the conclusion that Simon Smith is the correct father. (See TAG 1964[41:132-135]) However more recent sources claim Elizabeth's parents are Edward Smith and Elizabeth Bliss. (See Connecticut Nutmegger 2005[38:189])

           Boston Transcript, 6 April 1926, #2215

Elizabeth Ely, widow of Capt. William Ely, July 29, 1748, deeded to her sister Mary, widow of Ebenezer Parker, lands inherited from her father, Simon Smith, deceased. (Haddam Land Records, Vol. 5, folio 23.) Other similar deeds simply gave us a superfluous wealth of evidence. One we will refer to, since it throws light on the date of death of Elizabeth Ely. Her sister Mary Parker, Sept. 22, 1750, deeded to her son Abner an interest in land she had bought from her sister Elizabeth Ely of Lyme, lately deceased and also lands formerly belonging to her father, Simon Smith of Haddam. "The Ely Ancestry" has this transcription from the gravestone of Elizabeth: "Mrs. Elizabeth, relict of William Ely, died Oct. 10, 1750, in the 89th year of her age." The Parker deed shows she died before Sept. 22.

This family is in the last generation given by Roberts, as ancestors of Gerald Ford. William Ely (1647-1717), m. 1681 to Elizabeth Smith (c. 1662-1750), so their parents, if known, are out of the scope of the book. Roberts also cites “The Ely Ancestry” by MS Beach, Wm Ely and GB Vanderpoel., For them.

          examine my comments

Do they look good enough for sources to disconnect from Nehemiah and connect to Simon ? cool

In his will, in 1687, Simon does not mention his daughters' last name, many believe that if Simon's Elizabeth was the wife of William, he would have mentioned she was married.

I still think we "do not know" which Elizabeth Smith was his wife.....
