William Marion Saunders born May 7, 1873 in Menard, Texas, died Nov. 5, 1944 in Lincoln, New Mexico.  He married Annie Gallagher Sept 10, 1893 in Henson Creek, Tx. and they had 11 children.

In about 1914 he just up and left them. His son William Reed Saunders was 17 years old and he stepped up and took over helped his mother with the other 10 kids.

William Marion Saunders showed back up in the family 1 year before he died.  I have not found where he was for all those years.

Where have you searched?
They had 11 children?  I am having a hard time adding the link from the ancestry.com historical records section for your William Marion Saunders, but he has a profile in that section that matches your information.  He has 9 children, not 11, in that profile.  Maybe compare and see who's missing?

Have you spoken to the living children of the descendants of William Marion Saunders and Annie Gallagher, or to the living descendants of Annie Gallagher's family?

I was amazed at what my mom's first cousin's wife told me about my great-grandfather.  My ggf was about 10 years older than your William Marion Saunders.

My dad told me tales about my 3x gf, and tales about his own ggm.  If you have not asked living relatives on both sides, and you have names of people you can contact, please do consider it.

1910 census: He and Annie were in Justice Precinct 2, Jones Co., Texas. They are white.

He can't be: 1920 census: Los Angeles, California; 515 Ceres Avenue: Saunders, William M., male, black, 47, married [but no wife with him], b Texas; father b. TX; mother b. Louisiana; general merchant; appears to be living in a boarding house.

Could he be: 6 May 1922: Leavenworth, Kansas: US Penitentary, Name index to inmage case files, 1895-1931; Inmate #17889 (William M. Saunders)

[Of interest is that there is a 22 Nov 1922 case file, same prison for a William R. Saunders...]

W. M. Saunders, Texas Court of Criminal Appeal Indexes, 1892-1947, Primitive Number 47, (1892-1909), p 92

There are many records of Texas-born William Saunders without the "M".
