Somebody without sources filled in the search database sites having these Murrays descended from the Jacobite nobility family. I speculate this is just imagination. But, because of this...

ThruLines ancestry.com's data analytic software projected my Aunt's DNA matching to descendants of Lt. Henry Murray died in 1804 in Davidson, TN m.Rosanna Armstrong and Col. James Murray m. Anne Bolling Pocahontas g-granddaughter. d.1800 Cobbs, VA, Furthermore, it projected this connection was with Capt. John Murray m.Elizabeth Matthew (dau. of Joshua) also of Virginia. The segments are only 7 cM.

  1. Lt. Henry Murray b.~1735 in Scotland/Ireland d.1804 in Davidson, Tenn. m. Rosanna Armstrong
  2. Col. James Murray b.~1717 in Scotland d.1800 in Cobbs, Virginia. He married Pocahontas' g-grand-daughter Anne Bolling
  3. Capt. John Murray b.1737 d, m.Elizabeth Mathews

I had thought that Charles was from the Swatara Murrays. Swatara is 15 mile North on the same river and same side of the river, as Maytown, PA where he spent his life. Or, he was some Charley from "somewhere" Ireland.

I was wondering if anyone else has come upon this connection and know of any source about their ancestry.

Thank you, Bret

Henry has no sources. First, source him. Then make a profile for John and Elizabeth with sources.

A source to start with for John

a beginning for Henry

another for Henry - you may have to wait until the libraries open

Hi,  I have been doing extensive research on my Murray ancestors, since it is my surname.  I spent a large amount of time on Col. John Murray.  His parents were Henry Murray (my 5th great grandfather) and Rosanna Armstrong.  They were originally in Augusta Co., Virginia and then, I think, were in North Carolina for a brief time, around the Revolutionary War. I believe Henry and his sons fought in the war, along with Rosanna Armstrong's family.  Once TN was open for settlement, Henry Murray's whole family moved to TN.  There is actually a huge amount of land grants with the family's names on them.  They were all surveyors, so a lot of records have their signatures - among them were Henry, John, Alfred, Thomas, William, and some of their children.  You should look at my family tree on Ancestry.com.  There are, unfortunately, many mistakes in other family trees.  I don't think my ancestors were ever related to the descendants of Pocahontas, but everybody puts it in their trees anyway without any documentation to back it up.

Right now I am trying to figure out Henry Murray's father and place of birth.  Chalkley's of Augusta, VA has some good court records about him, but I haven't found anything else yet.

If you want to collaborate, feel free to email me.

Michael Murray

P.S. If you look at my Col. John Murray (son of Henry Murray) page, I have a lot of detailed information, but also some extra websites that don't relate to him. I saved extra info to his name while I was figuring out who he was.
