Can I change the privacy level for my own facts

For instance if I want to make my true first name, Thomas, public as well as the forename I am known by?

I am aware and capable of making informed decisions without compromising mandated (foolish!!!) security questions that I may have entered for accounts elsewhere.

Edit - I guess what I'm looking for is whether or not there is (in my `IT / Database` parlance) an implementation of fine-grained security / privacy against individual dimensions (fields)

You'd need to put Thomas instead of Tom as your Preferred First Name if you want it to appear. Or you could just put it in your bio and make your bio public.
