One Name Studies Project: request your 2020 Name Study here! [closed] [closed]

Would you like to start a Name Study for a surname in 2020?  Sign up below (answer, don't comment) and Ros will create the page for you and add you as the manager.  If you do not already have it, you will be awarded the One Name Studies Project Member badge.

Check hereis there one for your name already?

The three requirements are:
1) You have been on WikiTree for 30 days
2) You have signed the Honor Code
3) You have made 100 or more contributions (not just G2G points)

Read more about the project here:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Name_Studies

Please note when requesting redirects to variants: There can only be three spellings of the surname per Study, and one of them must be the name itself (such as Haywood, Heywood, and Hayward for the Haywood Name Study).  This is set due to limitations of the creation form plus lack of manpower.

Remember to hit 'ANSWER', not 'comment', nor 'reply'

What if you're interested in joining an existing One Name Study, but its leader is no longer active (since 2017)?
You send me a PM with the name of the Study, and I will look into it.  Eventually, the Study may be orphaned.  But you need to tell me which one first! ;)

I like to get a Husk surname study made. These some of the Variations for Surname. I don’t know the true main surname though seen both Hush and Husky, Huske

Similar surnames: HushHuskeHussHuckHuskyHupkaHuishTurkRushTuck

https://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=husk

Billie

Please re-read the question above and note that you can have the main name (Husk) and TWO variants only.

Please also re-read that you must ANSWER, not comment.

Thank you.

Hello Debbie - wrong G2G thread, I'm afraid (the clue was in the 2020 date and the fact that it was closed).

I would love to start a one name study for CHERER as I've done an extensive amount of research on it but I'm not sure how to go about leading the project. Are there tutorials to guide my way?
by Tracy Smith G2G Crew (380 points)

Sorry, I am unable to create a Name Study for you yet. One of the eligibility requirements (see main question above) is that you have made 100+ contributions - and you have only made 74.

Also: if you would like ideas on how to run a Name Study, take a look at the Project page, which has quite a few.

Look forward to seeing you again later! smiley

I would like to start a One Name Study for the surname Allphin
by Angelyn McCabe G2G5 (5.3k points)

I have created the Allphin Name Study at
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Allphin_Name_Study

READ THIS FIRST: I am still listed as the profile manager; I do not have your email address to put you on the Trusted List.  So that you avoid spam, do not put it on this forum.  Instead, send me a Trusted List request from your Study; then I will have your address and can complete the creation. DO THIS FIRST

You can reach the companion category page by clicking on the phrase 'Allphin Name Study' among the categories at the foot of the page. This is a list of all the profiles you include in your Study.

Your category will be [[Category:Allphin Name Study]]

and your sticker will be {{One Name Study|name=Allphin}}

and living members of your Study will be able to put {{Member|ONS|name=Allphin}} on their own profiles

Please visit the ONS Project page for ideas on things to do next: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Name_Studies

Note to self: Angelyn needs the ONS badge plus a redirect to Allphin

Thank you for your message.  I have now set you as manager.

No, the name study does not already exist.

The main surname is: LaBossiere, but there are unusual variants such as Claude and Glaude. Can or should these also be included?

Thank you, Jim LaBossiere
by Jim LaBossiere G2G6 Mach 3 (35.9k points)
So you are requesting that a LaBossiere Name Study be created, then?

I do not think that Claude nor Glaude can be included as variants; they are much too different.  There would need to be a Claude Name Study, with Glaude as a variant.
Hello Ros:

Yes, ALMOST: The surname should be: Labossiere. NO capital, "B". My computer keeps automatically doing that, and I missed it. I won't worry about Claude and Glaude for now. Please create this for me.

Thank you, Jim

Hi Ros: Ignore my question about tags, etc. and linking profiles. I got it answered on G2G and see how it works now. I was missing how to find the Profile "list" page. Jim

Glad you're OK now, Jim.  Perhaps you would like to re-read my comment above, which includes:

"You can reach the companion category page by clicking on the phrase 'Labossiere Name Study' among the categories at the foot of the page. This is a list of all the profiles you include in your Study."

Hi Ros: Thanks again for setting this up so quickly and for the tips. even though I used to do some Visual Basic programming, I sometimes find it difficult to discover the correct usage of items on WikiTree. Easy, once you know, but tough to find sometimes. I could not easily discover the difference between [project labels] and {stickers}. I also could not find my way to the alphabetical list of profiles added to my One Name Study. Easy, now I know it's there.

Thanks, again.
As I am sure by now you have discovered:

[[categories]] have double square brackets around them, and

{{stickers}} have double curly braces around them

You will get more used to the terminology and usage as you progress on WikiTree. :)

Ros,

I feel like an idiot as I cannot seem to see how to start.  The setup for G2G where you answer a question and you setup the project has in bold DO NOT USE.   I don't see an answer button to start, so perhaps it is dead, and no forwarding link to 2020 projects?  Updated:  Thanks for getting me the new link so I could do this...

I'd like to manage a surname project for Skeels with variants of Skeel and Skeele.

Can you get this kicked off for me?  I'm working with a few others like Duane Skeel and S L Skeels who are following Skeels in their tags.

I am currently cleaning data to upload new sources to the Skeels line already on WikiTree.   Hoping the project will lead others to help me with the huge undertaking.

Please advise if we can get a project started for Skeels and it's two variants..

thanks

Formatting Edited by g2g moderator because formatting was causing illegibility. No content was edited.
Exactly! I have looked all over this page for an active hyperlink to the word "ANSWER" (the word occurs 35 times on this page) and have yet to find it. I'm trying to start my own ONS and it's getting frustrated just to get started.

If you look at the title of the post, it says [closed].  That means it is closed to new answers (requests for new ONSs).  Have patience.  The Leaders are probably living their real lives at the moment, and will get to you. :) WikiTree is volunteer-run.

Robert - you will not find the answer link anymore, because the question is closed.  (After something is closed you can only reply to an existing comment/reply, or comment to an existing answer.)

Snap, Melanie! Your answer came in just after mine...
Yes, I did note the question being closed, but there are no updates as to how to go about this process in the wake of said closure. Incidentally, I sent Ros (who is taking a break from WikiTree) a message a few weeks back and she redirected me to this same page. So. I've been in a bit of a loop.

@ RH -- I saw that!  Right after my reply finally (talk about slow loading) posted. If I'd known you were posting (I don't have that kind of esp!), I'd have refrained.  smiley

.

@ Robert -- I think you may just need to be patient.  The "Big Event" at this time is the Connect-a-Thon, which starts tomorrow, so I'm guessing everyone is currently focussed on that.

You requested a Name Study via Private Message on 21 June.  I replied the same day, giving you the above link - which, at that time, was not closed, but unfortunately you did not see my reply.

I am afraid you will now just have to sit back and wait to be contacted.
