Hi Integrators Challenge Participants!

It's time for this month's Integrators Challenge. Prior months' stats will be posted soon. Here's the Challenge Tracker Results Page that has up to the minute stats.

To participate:

  1. Answer here (NOT comment). You can use the Challenge Tracker (preferred) or list your contributions in the comments under your answer here. You only need to post once.
  2. If you opt to use the Tracker you are ready to go.
  3. If you opt to just post in this thread, list the G2G question you worked on and what you did here (answered the question, create a profile, source profile) in a comment on your answer. Number your contributions.
  4. All Challenge activity should involve G2G questions from two months ago or more. If the question is unanswered try to answer it.
  5. Add the URL/Webpage Address of the question used to create the profile(s) under your Answer here when a profile is created to answer a G2G question.

Whatever question you choose, look at the information there and check to see if there is a profile on WikiTree yet. Yes? Move whatever information might be in the question to the profile, and put a link to the profile on the question in G2G so everyone is aware there is now a profile on WikiTree.

No profile? Create one (or a few if several people are mentioned in the question, comments, and answers), and do the same as above.

These are some threads to get you started if you don't want to do some searching on your own. If you use one of these, comment on your post below with which you are working on so you aren't doubling up another's work. Everything should be sourced!

'''New: Option two for Participating in the Integrators Challenge.'''

Click here to Create profiles using the Category: Needs Profiles Created. Selecting your Country and State.

  1. Create the profile, checking to make sure the profile does not already exist.
  2. Using the Tracker, click the Integrators Challenge box, click "New Profile from Needs Profiles Created (Add URL) and click Add Action.
  3. Add information to the bio and add sources to improve the profile and click the Integrators Challenge box and select added sources and the URL.
  4. Ask in the G2G Forum if any member is interested in adopting the profile.
  5. Try to connect the profile to a family/ancestor or tree already at WikiTree.
  6. If not using the Tracker, Add the URL/Webpage Address of the profile(s) used to create the new profile(s) under your Answer here when a profile is created.
  7. REMOVE  the category line at the top of the bio when you are done creating a profile. ie: [[Category: xxxx Project Needs Profiles Created]]

The Monthly Challenge runs from midnight the first day of your month and ends at 11:59 the last day of the month, your time.

Ask any questions you have here in the thread.

Thank you, Dorothy, for posting the Integrator challenge for June.
Interested in Integrator Challenge for June. Thanks for message.
HI Sherri, welcome to our challenge!

To all Integrator's Challenge participants, those of you that are creating profiles from the Category:Needs Profile Created and then Orphaning the profile(s) would you please send a list of the orphaned profile(s) to Janet (Langridge) Wild  Thanks!!

A Reminder: In order to join the Integrator's challenge you would need to be here at least three months. That way you would be famiilar with the many ins and outs of being a member of WikiTree and improving and/ or connecting profiles along with adding sources and other helpful info to further improve the quality, and value of a profile.

So just how far down the rabbit hole are we allowed to go?

In the profiles I always put who they married, the years they were born as well as the kids. A lot of times I find myself going down the rabbit hole and adding the kids as well cause they are on the census. My thinking is if i don’t the auto bot will just put them up for someone else to put it.

Is this allowed?
Dorothy, I don't know how to take this comment to send the names to Janet.  I usually hold on to the profiles I created UNTIL I have written a full, narrative biography unless there is so little data that a biography is nearly impossible to write.

I can give her a list of all those I wrote bios for last month and orphaned, but I haven't advertised those.
Hi Kathy, I have sent you a PM with a link to the Integrators members who are taking care of the profiles created and then orphaned. Have a wonderful day and thank you for your continued participation.

Please remind people to REMOVE  the category line

at the top of the bio when they are done creating a profile

ie: [[Category: xxxx Project Needs Profiles Created]]

There are a lot of profiles in there that are done, but the line wasn't removed.

by Chris Hoyt G2G6 Pilot (866k points)
Added to instructions above. Hope that helps.

Sometimes people work on their own watch list, not knowing that person is in the "Needs" Category. If you should spot a person in our group continously forgetting to do it, please feel free to send them a message or notify one of the project leaders with the name, and we will do it. Thanks so much!!

Could you add a reminder to folks to let me have their contributions to add to tracking spreadsheet. Had a better response in May which was good.

I need the following

Date | Name | Profile wiki ID | G2G link | Your ID | Any comments

Thanks

by Janet Wild G2G6 Pilot (331k points)

I seem to add a lot of "Needs Profiles Created" categories to profiles, so I may as well try and fill in some of them.
by Susan DeFoe G2G6 Mach 3 (34.9k points)
That sounds great Susan. Welcome to this month's challenge.

I would like to join, but would like to work on my half a dozen separate imported GEDcoms sheets - uncompleted as yet.

Is this possible?
by Sharon Flax Waddington G2G6 (8.3k points)

Just let us know here when your done so we can start counting those not on GEDcom sheets, but a part of our project. (Those on GEDcom should not appear on the Integrator challenge tracker).

If you are not sure what does count, please go here, hopefully this page will answer any questions you may have.  https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Space:Integrators_Project_Challenge_Outline&public=1   and ....

Thanks, Dorothy

Never participated before. Happy to join. I am confused. The needs profile created category. Is that to write up bio and source those people or is it to create profiles for family members mentioned in their profile?
by Kandita Post G2G6 Mach 4 (47.4k points)
edited by Kandita Post
Ideally it is to add new profiles for family members listed on the original profile in the needs category. Adding sources and bio is however improving the profile, which would count too.

IM IN FOR JUNE
by Stephen Norman Craig McCallum G2G6 Mach 2 (28.1k points)
Thanks Stephen, glad to have you aboard.
Dumbo sees to have erred AGAIN!

I saw one of the winners had 121 points for a MONTH. I began on a profile and was racking up score... I MUST be doing something wrong! ((I would equal the winners score in  a few hours...)

I don't wish to be thought of as a cheat! I will re-read what we are to be doing and try again... please delete any score I may have.

Humble apologies!!
Thank you Stephen for your honestly.  Our project is unique and not everyone understands it the first go around until they participate and study our project pages.

Sorry it took me so long to figure out your post, and how I could respond. I was trying to think how you could get a lot of points to beat our winners "in a few hours".

If you were editing a profile many times, each edit to the same profile would not be counted on our tracker if you chose the "Integrator challenge", just the profile itself one time only.

Any additional edits could be added but would end up on the same page of that particular profile. (I myself have made a few edits to a profile but checked and only the one profile counted, giving me one point only on our tracker).

Now you do get credit for each edit as a contribution to your own profile contribution totals, but that would not be on our tracker.  Hope that makes sense to you.

NOW the penny drops!! Thank you so much for explaining! We right at the end of the month so I will rejoin for July without having a worry that I'm "cheating"!! enlightened

Stephen, I don't think anyone would attribute bad behavior to another without expressed intent.  One of the goals of Wikitree collaboration is to assume good intentions and sometimes that there was a misunderstanding.  Have fun!  Wikitree is not brain surgery.  No lives will be lost because of anything you do here.
I received the answer as to how scores are calculated... I misunderstood! I'm dying you get recognized (pun pun) LOL!!!

I am adding sources and cleaning up profiles.
