Has anyone found information on Portumna Workhouse in County Galway?

I just learned my grandfather was born there. Looking to see if the family left the workhouse and what became of them.

Hello Mary, How are you? It's a coincidence but I rcv'd an update email from irelandxo dot  com   today

announcing they have information about Portumna Workhouse from the 'Irish Workhouse Centre'. It's a museum set in the actual buildings of the Portumna Workhouse.  

irelandxo are also asking for stories etc from descendants.

It's a very good website for sharing information about your own family history. It's an initiative of the Irish Gov't to link the Irish Diaspora.

I find the website a bit clunky. They don't have a search field unless you enter a location or a name. So I suggest you use your web search engine and write:

 'irelandxo portumna workhouse' and you'll get to their dedicated page.

I just read it, text and a 13 minute youtube video.

It's kind of hard to help you without a little more information. Your best bet is to create a profile for him and add all the information on him that you have and where you found it (sources). At the top of the page of Space:Sources-Ireland-Province-County there is a link to Getting Started with Irish Sources This will show you and how to use the major sources in Irish Genealogy.

Irish Work House may give you a little background on what it was.
