Can I import my tree from ancestry.com to here?

This is probably the most relevant Help page: Help:GEDCOMpare .

GEDCOMs are no longer imported, meaning profiles are no longer created automatically nor added en masse from your uploaded GEDCOM.

WikiTree uses a process called GEDCOMpare, in which you compare the profiles from your GEDCOM to potential matching profiles on WikiTree. This comparison is done individually for each profile in your GEDCOM.

Once you've completed the comparison process, you will be able to edit existing matching profiles (privacy level/other restrictions permitting) or create new profiles for unmatched profiles. While GEDCOMpare automates some of this process, you essentially will be working on one profile at a time.

Welcome Myrna,

Yes and no. You can import data (mainly as a GedCom) via a process that will look for already existing profiles. Each person has a profile page here. As there is only one tree, it is important (and fun!) to find out which profiles already exist.

After finding out which people / profiles are already in the database you can import other related people.

This is the big advantage of Wikitree: no duplicate entries and checked data.

And: all profiles should have real sources (not just stating that the info come from Ancestry) like the links to the real deeds. So there is real proof of the existence of this person.

More info here, Myrna:

and you can look in the Help File index under GEDCOM for additional data if you need it.
Got it! Waiting for it to be processed, thank you!
Part of it, too, depends on how large your Ancestry.com gedcom would be. If it would include over 5000 individuals, then you would not be able to upload the file to WikiTree and there is no way on Ancestry.com to make the file smaller--it's either all or nothing. If your Ancestry.com file is larger than 5000 you will need a program which can help you segment your gedcom into smaller files. I do not use a gedcom to create profiles, but I've been told by others who do that even though WikiTree allows the upload of gedcoms of 5000, the optimum size for the GEDCompare process and profile creation is a file containing about 500 individuals.
