That's a broad question!

The minimum requirement for a biography on WikiTree is to provide sources for the facts claimed in the data section. This can be done either as bullet points (an asterisk in the edit translates to a bullet in the viewable text) or as a narrative.

WikiTree prefers but does not require inline citations of the sources in the biography text. These will then appear under Sources in the viewable text. Alternatively, the sources can be listed under Sources, but this is really suitable only for very short and simple biographies with few sources to list.

The main point is to link each fact to its source.

In the Edit screen of a profile, the right-hand sidebar has a number of helpful examples for formatting.

Some of us created a page to help with creating the Biography and working on Suggestions.  It is mainly trying to put the links for many 'often used' help pages into one place.  It has the order of the sections in a Biography, as well as help on Sourcing.  Hope this helps.

In its simplest form, a biography section will look like this:

== Biography ==

== Sources ==
<references />

You can add a === Research Notes === section if you wish, but it is imperative to state the source for your information.  See the Sources info in the Help Index for more details.

Research notes is a level 2 header ( == Research Notes == ) and should be placed above the == Sources == header and below the == Biography == header.

(Ideally it should be below any actual biography.)
