Can someone please help me determine if I am related to this Ellen Whelan? I am unable to figure it out

Thank you frank, she suppose to be my great great grandfather sister , thats only 4 generations, that make me doubt my Great great Grandfather Thomas whelan is the wrong person

Connections only means it goes from person one to person two by way of marriage connections, as well as by blood.

I might be connected to someone because my father's mother's brother was married to their sister's husband's grandfather's half sister.  We do not share any ancestors.

I am related to someone if the trail goes only by blood.  My great-grandmother's brother's great-great-granddaughter is my cousin, because we both share an ancestor.

Ellen (Whelan) Ffrench (1831 - 1906) (linked to in your question) does not currently have a father profiled on WT. 

Can you say where you believe the connection should be?

Ok, I see what has happened. There are duplicate profiles for Ellen and her husband.  These will need to be merged.

I'll propose the merges and we can go from there.

I also proposed a merge for another duplicate profile I found related to this person.  You are profile manager for those two profiles, so you should be able to complete the merge as proposed.
