Hi Everyone!

Registration is now closed and we have TWENTY NINE team members!!

The Thon starts tomorrow morning and runs to Monday morning at the same time.

You get one point for every profile you create from an existing profile. So add parents, spouses, and children!

Remember you MUST at at least one source to the profile as you create it. You don't have to fully source it, that can be done later.

You can place your new profiles into any of the Maintenance Categories. If there isn't a category under the province you need, just use the Canada, Needs More Records category.

Post here or message me directly if you need any help or have any questions!

Have fun!!

I will add some profiles to my NL group.
I have a question on Maintenance categories : Why are categories missing for New Brunswick for a number of the Maintenance groups?  Can I just add them and link them to the category hierarchy?
Just answered my own question, after my second cup of coffee.  I re-read your post and it says to use the Canada Categories if there are no categories for my province :) Sorry
Matthew we can get those categories set up, I know Amy Gilpin was going to work on it before but she has a lot on her plate. We can sort it out later ;)

I have signed up for Team Canada.  I will work on Ontario unlinked profiles.
by S Stevenson G2G6 Pilot (249k points)
Perfect! You're on the list :)
there are 78 fewer unlinked Ontario profiles (2% reduction) and 71 fewer unconnected Ontario profiles per this week's report. Way to go Team Canada!

I'm in too, Christine!  I replied to Eowyn.

I'll probably spend one day on Nova Scotia profiles, one day on NB and one day on PEI.

Awesome! You're in :)

I just joined the Canadian Connectors. I will only have two days that weekend available and I will likely work on some unconnected Alberta trees.

Fantastic! Let us know if you need any help :)

Hello. I have signed up to work with the Canadian Connectors. I will work on Nova Scotia and Ontario. I look forward to your suggestions and tips.
by A. Creighton G2G6 Pilot (932k points)

Hi Anne! There are lots of ways to add profiles.

1. Start with your own profiles. Go to your Watchlist (under My Profile), and then click on the Unconnected tab.

2. Here is the category page for Canada, Maintenance Categories. Under Canada is a sub category for Canada, Needs Profiles Created, with links to each province. There are 277 Nova Scotia profiles and 650 for Ontario (and counting since I am adding to that every day!).

Thank you for the great advice. I am looking forward to this.

I'm still not too sure what happens as a volunteer in the Canadian Connectors, but hey, I'm game!  Like Culley, I will only have one or two days that weekend available, and I will likely work on some unconnected Alberta trees.  I think this makes the most sense if my ancestors first settled in AB and SK after leaving Tipperary, right?

Hi all

I will be working on my Hewitt family lines in Ontario.  I still have to do my Greeter and Ranger duties, but will do what I can.

Hi all.  It's my first time participating in the connectors challenge.  As New Brunswick is my main area of interest/research, that's mostly where I will be working on.

Small question : What makes a profile "count" in the challenge?  Is it essentially just logging the profile when it's created and tagging the connectors challenge?  How do the statistics count?  I have participated in the Sourcerors challenge before so I know somewhat but want to make sure I'm doing it right.
by Matthew Evans G2G6 Mach 7 (73.5k points)
Every time you create a profile that is connected to an existing profile gets you a point.

Hey, everyone. I will be connecting some people as soon as I can. Working on my comic AND I am trying to update my DNA matches as per the new changes coming out. Check Ancestry.com for details.

Don't worry. I will add people. We're in 9th at last count. Let's get to it!!
by Chris Ferraiolo G2G6 Pilot (766k points)
Some of our first-timers are doing a fabulous job, but you still have time to win a T-shirt, Chris!
Cool. I got a scan a thon shirt.

I'm off on a hike today, so I'm giving you a few hours to pass me!  Enjoy connecting smiley

LOL. Thanks. I'll see what I can do.
Chris, Thanks for being part of Team Canada!
No problem. =D
Nice work, both of you!  I completed a good chunk of my list too.
Thanks. I tried to catch up with you but I crashed. I wasn't about to use Nosorgines and make profiles based on that. Though, that was tempting....

Hi! This is my first time doing one of these and I plan to work on mostly Ontario profiles. Can someone please remind me of what does and doesn't count towards this challenge?
by Daniel Dickson G2G4 (4.5k points)
Hi Daniel!

Every new profile you create from an already existing profile counts as a point. So you can create parents, spouses, or children off of a profile and each new profile will be a point for  you.

Remember to leave at least one source! Use the Maintenance Categories if you want and we can add more sources later.

Message me directly if you are having any problems :)
OH!  I'm supposed to add as many children and siblings as well... I didn't realize that. I was just trying to figure out how to connect someone from 1990 to the existing person in 1850... it's a doozy sometimes to find someone who is already in the tree.

Been a slow day.. Only connected 5 previously unconnnected trees to the larger tree.  WIll work on more tomorrow.
You have 50 points already Kathryn! Good job!!
Thank you so much Christine!
Keep rockin', Daniel Dickson, S. Stevenson and Wendy Taylor, your numbers are doing us proud!

Hey CCC team!

How has the first day gone for you?

I am off to an excediently slow start but oh, well! Having fun digging into a few BC families.

Keep connecting!

Peggy
by Peggy Watkins G2G6 Pilot (837k points)
I'm working on the other coast, Peggy!  Trying not to leave myself too much work for next week, so its slow, but making progress for sure.  Enjoy your BC research!
Good luck, Peggy!

I'm over here adding people I probably should have added ages ago because they make for great cousin bait.
Hey Laurie,

On another note, earlier this week I got stuck in working on a Nova Scotia family, the Fish family. It took some work but I think I have left it better than I found it. It was a bit of a mess before!

Peggy
You always leave things better than you found them, Peggy, so thank you for the tidy Fishes!
Thanks, Laurie!

Houston, we have a connection!

I connected Myrtle Cosman (Kirkland) James with her already existing husband and her already existing parents! Woo-hoo, so satisfying!

Way too go!

I think I am going to go out on a "limb" and try to work on unlinked Quebec profiles (not my strength, do not speak French) and try to put some gedcom's back together.
Nice job!
