I want to do this right. I have my father's ancestry back to my GG grandfather. I don't have all the sources that I found this information. Can I put these ppl in as an outline, and add sources as I go back and find them? Or should I just slowly put them in as I go back to refind where I got the information? Thanks.

There are not too many Ruttencutters in the US.  Mostly West Virginia, Oregon, and Kentucky with a few scattered in California, Ohio and Illinois.  Not many.
Yes that's true. The Ruttencutters tend to have lots of girls. So, the name is often married into other families. I will probably post a question about this more in detail in "The Tree House" section....or the "Geaneology Help" section later. I have to look and see which one is appropriate for actual family history questions :)

Hi Cameron,

Here is a link to familysearch.org with the name Ruttencutter plugged in.  You can modify the search data for census, birth, death and marriage records to supplement your profiles.  It is easier to source as you go rather than to go back and add.  You would be surprised the labyrinth WikiTree can become once you start making discoveries.  It's also much more helpful to others to be up to date with sources when a possible match of a name comes up.  Best wishes.  :-)

Hi Cameron

I think it would be okay to add them to your tree, and then go back and find the information, I personally have a great number of profiles, without the source being added, but as I get to them and then do the research I add the source I get to them then. Just remember to check and see that noone else has already entered your relative as part of their tree, in my case I have come across, at least half a bozen cases, where this has happened and had to ask to be a trusted member to continue the line

Good answer Paul, especially since she is adding relatively new ancestors.
Thanks for the input. I am kinda not expecting to see many of my ancestors on other trees, at least not the ones I have collected so far. It seems that everytime I have searched on this site, no results for Ruttencutter come up. Hopefully in time, this will change.
Great last name; what is its origin?
It comes from the Baden, Germany and Alsace Lorraine France area. It was Rothengatter back then and changed to Ruttencutter when the fam came to the US.
