New member introducing myself Erik Siersdale

Hello all,

The pandemic has me yearning for connections and I've been putting a lot of time researching my family tree. Although I've had some success on Ancestry using their DNA test, I'm just beginning to learn the benefits of the work here on wikitree.

If anyone has tips on how to get past the brick wall of economically disadvantaged Italian or Irish immigration, that would be very helpful. While my line that was mostly American/British has been entered by previous users, I'm going in cold on the other half of my entire family tree.

The Igneri's of Calabria Italy and the Hallorans of Munster Ireland are my main foci now.

Thanks in advance,

Erik Siersdale

All though it's a little out of date because I'm working on his possible father. Here is what I did on my brick wall

I'm pretty new (here on wikitree, and in genealogy as well) but I'm founding as the best help and sources for my italian ancestor. Unfortunately results depends heavily on regions and provinces, but I'd recommend to start from there.

Best luck

For Italian immigrant ancestors, it's usually best to start with what you know and then work your way backward.

So, what do you know (that is documented) about your Igneri ancestors? Have you searched and found them on US Census records? Have you searched for their immigration information (arrival / ship manifests, naturalization)? FamilySearch is a great resource for these records.

Once you have some definite information on your Italian line, then you can work your way back to Italy to look for birth and marriage records.

If you need help, HMU!
