I’m not too good with computers being 81 years old.so be kind. Can we move my tree from MyHeritage?

Ovella, you should understand that your GEDCOM will not be imported en masse into WikiTree. Nor will any profiles be created automatically.

If you use the GEDCOMpare process, you must compare each of the profiles from your GEDCOM to potential matches at WikiTree. If you find a match, you can edit that profile to add any new information from your GEDCOM (unless privacy/other required permissions block your ability to edit the profile). For rejected/non-matched profiles, you cannot create new profiles until you are given the ADD button.

GEDCOMpare can be a very laborious process, which is why you should start with a very small GEDCOM (I recommend no more that a dozen profiles for one's first attempt, especially if you are not computer savvy).

My personal view of GEDCOMpare is that it is an "acquired taste" and is not for everyone. But everyone should at least test the process to see if the work requirement is within one's skill set.

You should create a GEDCOM file from your MyHeritage tree.

I have used the MyHeritage Family Tree Builder software package (this is the free software that lives on your own computer -- you should have saved a copy of your online data in this software) to generate GEDCOM files. Under the File menu, select Export GEDCOM.

The next screen has a fill-in blank labeled Save As. It never works for me (your mileage may vary), so I just hit Next. The Next screen will prompt you with a suggested name for a GED file; you can accept that name or create some other name. After that, keep hitting NEXT until you get to a screen that asks you what you want to export. You should export notes, sources, and citations, but not photos (because the WikiTree utility does not import them).

You can choose to export the entire tree or to include only selected people. In the past, I was able to select a branch of the tree (for example, all descendants of a particular person), but that option no longer seems to be available for me... It is generally best to start with a very small GEDCOM file so you can test the WikiTree GEDCOMpare software -- and WikiTree does not allow upload of more than 5000 people (which I would call a huge GEDCOM).

I have mine on ancestry and there is a way to import I believe however I manually put in each person and was able to correct errors as I sifted through each source.

As I understand it, different sites have different protocols/headings/etc, so it is not quite that simple - the uploaded files/s then need considerable tidying up......

If you are lucky enough to have a "computer whizz kid" younger relative they can be a great help with things like this.
