The Palatine Migration Project aims to add and improve WikiTree content regarding emigrants from German-speaking Europe from 1700 until the American Revolution. These people were known colloquially as Palatines regardless of what part of German speaking Europe was their homeland. The Project coordinates the activities of WikiTreers who have Palatine migrant ancestors and/or would like to improve Palatine profiles.

Project members contribute in a variety of ways, through working on family groupings, cleaning up profiles, adding sources, merging duplicates and ensuring that the profiles reach the best standard possible. They also offer assistance to others working on Palatine profiles wherever possible.

If you would like to join the project we would love to have you.

Please post an answer below including your research interests and what you would like to work on.

WikiTree profile: Palatine Migration WikiTree
in Requests for Project Volunteers by Dave Rutherford G2G6 Pilot (127k points)
My mother's family has Mennonite roots in the Palatine on both her mother and father's sides.   They fled religious persecution in Switzerland and found it for a while in Germany. William Penn convinced them to come to the colony of Pennsylvania.  But then Penn died and they faced ethnic discrimination in Pennsylvania by the English governor as well.
Hi I am introducing myself to the project -my name is Branwen Temple- I am a descendant of Johann Conrad Weiser and Straub- also Burkhard Moser. And through my maternal line, Libor Winter through my paternal grandmother- all from Pennsylvania.I'd say 75% of my roots coming into the US were through this migration. I would love to do more research with it as I have spent hours on research already and I absolutely can't stop! I have built a tree of 11,000 on Ancestry that started with Straub and I ran into some dead ends that were very frustrating -because I knew there was so much more to discover. Anne Boleyn who is my 22 degree connection on the Temple side of my family comes around with that through genealogy -its facinating!- I am comfortable with German research, places and names-and I want to go further with my own-
Hi Branwen,

I'll add the project badge to your profile and contact you with further details.
Dave,

It appears Mary Grubs (Grubb), is part of the "Palatine" migration and is also 4th or 5th Great Grandmother.

Hi Douglas,

If you are interested in contributing to our project, please send me a private message and I'll get you set up.

Dave
I am Jeffrey Rudd, great-grandson of Engelbert Dold.

Born in Freiburg, Breisgau, BadenWürttemberg, Germany.

Died on October 24th 1925 in Belleville, Saint Clair, Illinois, U.S.A.
Hi Jeffrey,

The Palatine Migration Project focuses on German immigration in the 18th century, prior to the American Revolution.

Your ancestor arrived too late for this project, but you could contact the Germany Project.
I have a lot of German ancestors who have sort of attestation that they participate in the revolutionnary war

But I am so bad at looking in United States registries.
I think I would need a course on this
Are you interested in joining the project?
Actually, I have a lot of Palatine in my ancestors...
I would like to understand more of their stories

What made them move to Scotland and United States

But I just don't understand how you can do the research without mixing things up, when you don't speak or read the langage and you don't have the mother's maid name

If someone can teach me how to do it, I can try
I'll send you a private message.

Danke ! smiley

I have an interest in this project. Nicholas Wamser is my ancestor.  I am descended from Nicholas Wamser's daughter, Abigail.  She married my ancestor Nicholas Heibst.  Eventually the name was changed to Hypes. Which is my maiden name. I am Denise R Hypes Freeman.

Hoping to join this project, very interested in focusing on the Palatine immigrants who settled Lunenburg, Nova Scotia as my mother's ancestors are made up largely of these people.

I have numerous ancestors who fit the Palatine Migration Project, Early immigrants are Frederick Gump, Christian Hoffart, Henry Humberger, Johann Frederick Zinn, George Heikes (Heighes, Heiges). I recently began connecting my Zinn and Heikes line and am really frustrated by the numerous duplicates due to confusion of the fornames Johann, Johannes, John with the preferred/middle names...Nicholas, Adam, etc.  This is a family that needs a project to manage the merges needed due to GEDCOM imports that created a bit of a mess. Help!!
by Kie Zelms G2G6 Mach 1 (13.6k points)
Hi Kie,

Yes, between all the gedcom imports and the naming conventions, straightening out the early lines is a major job.

Welcome to the project. I've added the project badge and will send you a note with further details.

Yes, I would like to join the project.  I am following my Mother's family, "Simon", who settled in Pennsylvania & Ohio, and also my wife's family "HasBrouck", who settled in Ulster, New York, and many family members are still there.  I've noticed recent updates to a few of the "Simon" profiles that I created when I first joined WikiTree, adding them to the project.

Hi, I'm new to Wikitree, have been uploading GED files from Ancestry.com.    Believe I am descended from Johan Ekel Luckenbill who came to Philadelphia on the Thistle in 1730.   Am having difficulty figuring out how Christian Benjamin Luckenbill ((1767 to 1855) is linked (have narrowed it down to one of 4 possible fathers!   Would love to help on this project if there were something useful and "simple" for a beginner to do!

My research focuses on the Irish Palatine Hoffman families of County Kerry, Ireland who settled on Charles Blennerhassett lands in Ballymacelligot, Gortagullane, Cahermore and other places in County Kerry, as well as those Hoffman families from County Kerry, who emigrated to America in the late 1700s through to the early 1900s.

I have been trying to get the Bierly family back to German roots and the DNA results lead me here. I know nothing about this migration and would love more information on where they landed and how.

Hi Dave,

I would be interested in joining this project. I am descended from Caspar Roth (Roth-2345) and probably others who were part of the Palatine Migration.

Best,

Alexander Koch

I am a descendant of Baltas Cleek aka Gluck and am interested in the Palatine Migration project.  Really don't know much more past that about my ancestors.
by Elaine Kingery G2G Crew (500 points)
Welcome Elaine,

I'll add you to the project and contact you with more details.
I am pretty sure I am also a descendant of Baltas Cleek although I am missing the link between Baltas and his son Jacob. Do you have documentation Connecting Baltas to Jacob?
Jacob is assumed to be one of the children of Baltus who arrived on the Mary in 1732, but I'm unaware of any primary source connecting them.

My father's ancestors lived in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and pretty nearly all of them (Feidt, Hoy, Novinger, etc) probably qualify.  Recently I've been working on the early Hoys. Dave, thanks for your recent help with Carle Hoy. I've also done some work on my wife's Harts who arrived from Germany/Switzerland before the revolution.

I have a number of Palatine emigrants in my ancestors.  On WikiTree I want to work on the Strauss and Wildermuth descendants.  That in itself involves a great deal of work.  The early connections with other Palatine emigrants will widen the scope of what I want to do.
by Gary Strouse G2G Crew (500 points)
Hi Gary, I added immigration information and the Palatine Migration sticker to your Wildermuth immigrant ancestor.  I'm sure Dave Rutherford will contact you soon.  Welcome to the project.

I have been doing genealogy since before computers & now also do it for my nephews & 2nd husband. Surnames I know of that come from the Palatine area are Schneider & Hinnerschied/Hendershot. I would like to join the Palatine Migration Project, but I am not sure my ancestor qualifies? He is Brock-816. He arrived in 1751 on the Queen of Denmark from the Hessen area of Germany. He married and relocated to South Carolina - or at least his decendants did.
by Kathy King G2G1 (1.8k points)
All German speakers who emigrated from Europe between 1700 and 1776 are considered eligible for the project. So Valentine does qualify, but you do not need a "qualifying ancestor" to join the project. All WikiTreers can participate.

Welcome to the project. I've added the project badge to your profile and I'll send you a message with further details.

Matter->Mattern->Mottern->Mothorn
Johann Hans Adam Matter his wife Maria Magdalena Quirin from Eckendorf/Ingwiler, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, with many of their 13 kids and at least 3 brothers fled (in the middle of the night) via Rotterdam, Holland on the ship ‘Edinburgh’ to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania  in 1750 settling in Bern Township, Berks, Pennsylvania. This Matter is my 5th gt grandfather. There is also Range, Kuntz, Hammer, Kaupp, Weber on that side of the family as well that need further work.  Look forward to learn more of this fascinating migration.
