Korean War Locations

Trying to find out if there is a way to access where a specific Soldier was located at different times during his service in the Korean War.  National Archives looks like a bit of work to access.  Anywhere else to check?

If you know the regiment he served with, you can search that way for history of troop movements and battles through Google.  I was able to pinpoint a relative's death location which was only listed as Korea in his death records.  I wanted accuracy, so I ended up reading an online history of his regiment and was able to pinpoint where he died by the dates in the description of the battle they were involved in.

Great queston Daniel,

Tommy and Lauren have some good answers and to add to them, I'd ask where have you looked so far?  In helping another member track her ancestor's WWII movements she was able to find his personnel records from the US Marine Corps that have been published by Ancestry.  You may be able to find records at Fold 3, Ancestry, or elsewhere.

If you haven't done this yet, I recommend you write a letter to the Veterans Administration.  Ask them to send you EVERYTHING they have on your servicemember.  Because many of the personnel files were burned, a lot are missing.  However, the VA has worked to link branch, unit, state, and regional records to fill in the gaps for the records that were destroyed in the fire.

Good luck in your search!

Like others have said if you know the unit it makes it easier, I have had some good luck using the below website. It usually has a good history of the unit and provides details about the different battles or locations they were located. Good Luck.
