Help on an American Revolutionary war profile

Question

I am trying to get more information to add to the profile of Andrew Clark.  He was the son of Abraham Clark a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  Andrew was killed in action while serving his country and I would like some help to properly honor him and his service.  I added the 1776 tag to his profile but I have not filled out all the fields on the tag.  I would like to find out when his date of service started and the exact regiment.  It seems his family suffered severely for the cause, not only did Andrew give his life but the family farm was torched by the British and two of his brothers were taken prisoner.  Last year I visited his grave as well as his brothers and parents.  Now that the 4th of July is coming up I would like to honor his sacrifice as I think it is due.

If you know he died in battle, perhaps you could add that to the text of the biography, instead of blandly stating that he passed away.

Before I posted my question I had put on his profile that he died in service for his country and that he served in the Eastern New Jersey Artillery. That is all the information that I have and was hoping to find more to add to the profile.

For additional information you might attempt to see if the National Society Sons of the American Revolution has done a profile on him and check with the National Archives to see if the have a file.  There also may be a file to be found on fold3.  I don’t believe that you need to pay anything for Rev. War records on their website.  Good luck!

I have checked the Dar site as a reference but there is nothing about him there.  As he is not known to have fathered any children I figured he would not be listed, however, I checked again and still no information.  The Clark family has long been a been difficult family to find documents for during that time.  A cousin, Cornelis Winans defected to the Tories and led the British to the Presbyterian church were the family worshiped at and thus destroying many records.  The family of Captain Thomas Clark, one of Andrews brother is not recognized by the Dar or NSSAR because of the missing documentation however, his lineage is recognized by the DSDI (the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence). Only in the past couple years has this line been proven.  I will check fold3.  Thank you for your response

I checked Fold3 and there does seem to be a record for an Andrew Clark in New Jersey but I cannot view the record because I am not a subscriber.  This Andrew may or may not be the one but I have no way to check myself.

Check again, around the 4th, Fold3 as sometimes around patriotic holidays they run “free” access to their website records for a limited time.  It would be a good bet that Rev. War records might be available at this time.  You might be able to access those records Then.  Again, good luck.  MLD

I just received a notice from fold3 that Rev. War records are free from now through the 15th.
