Scots laird acquires unsourced daughter?

+3 votes

Some creative genealogy seems to have been taking place here. Agnes Anstruther was the only documented wife of John Bethune, 8th of Balfour. She has been given a second unsourced husband, who also happens to be called John Bethune. The couple have gone on to produce an unsourced daughter called Janet Agness Bethune (sic).

I'm sure this is an innocent muddle, but I'm not yet certified pre-1700 (still working on more recent family lines). Could somebody better qualified in Scottish ancestry take a look at it? And how does it fit in with the pre-1700 guidelines?

Whether or not the wife and daughter existed the John Bethune 8th Laird is certainly intended to be the same man so I have put them up to be merged.
