Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Please remember to concentrate on those Notables who have already passed (died), so that we can see their profiles. If you create a profile for a living Notable, that profile WILL GO UNLISTED and no one can see it except for the PM and anyone on the trusted list!

And remember - Notables should have a Wikipedia page at the very least to qualify. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Whose Who or a NATIONAL Biography  is acceptable as well. And they should be DEAD!

If you manage a profile for any living notable, would you please replace any Notables categories on that profile with [[Category:Living Notables]]? That could clear out a lot of profiles that people can't work on from the various Notables categories, and also keep all the living notables in one place to make them easy to find, should the need arise.

{{Notables Sticker}} should be put on these deceased profiles correct?  not  {{Notables}} project box now?  There are a lot of 931 Suggestions because people add the project box when the Notables Project is not a PM.
The sticker is for those who are deceased.

I think the box was for those notables who were living - before they became unlisted back in 2018. So the box is now somewhat irrelevant.
I just wanted to mention it because when the change was made that Project Box should only be on profiles when the Project is PM, it added a lot of Suggestions.  I have been going through and changing the 'Notables' to 'Notables Sticker' because many people don't realize that there is a difference and / or they like the Notables Project box on the profiles.  Many people are adding the Notables project box, instead of the Notables Sticker when they create a Notables profile.  There are currently over 4700 profiles that have the 931 Suggestion for Notables.  I have also sent out comments to people when I see that it is happening.
I prefer to convert the categories into links, by putting a colon after the first set of brackets. If they pass, the categories can easily be restored by removing the colon.
I always put the sticker on profiles where the Project is no manager. For me the important question is: Who is the manager?
For the Notables Project, I think the manager is Scott Fulkerson.
I sometimes stumble on minor notables from the past who do have Wikipedia pages, do I need to be a member of the Notables Project to add the Notables sticker to these profiles? The most recent one I encountered in my regular connecting work is Gideon Granger 4th Postmaster General to USPS [Granger-2029]
Nope - as long as you place the sticker on based on the guidelines from the project, you're good. Just keep in mind that if you put the Project Template ( {{Notables}} ) on, the project has to be at least co-manager of the profile, if not sole manager (not required), or you'll get an error. So generally the sticker's a good approach ( {{Notables Sticker}} ). The only exception is living or non-Open privacy profiles. On those we do require the Project to be at least co-manager.

Thanks!

Jelena, that is correct.  If there is no project as the manager, then it should always be a sticker.  Many people just don't realize that there are project boxes and stickers for many projects and they don't realize they are putting a project box on a profile.
by Linda Peterson G2G6 Pilot (780k points)
That's correct:

{{Notables Sticker}} = any profile that does not have the Project as Manager on the profile (doesn't matter if it's on the Trusted List)

{{Notables}} = any profile that has the Notables Project as manager or co-manager of a profile.

And, it's not necessary to add Notables as manager or co-manager of a profile unless the profile is not going to be set as Open Privacy. If you choose to put a Notable as something other than Open, then you must put the Notables Project as manager or co-manager of the profile.

Hope that helps.
Thank you Scott for that explanation!!

As far as I can tell, there's no profile for him on WT as of yet.
Sad, when I think of this one. Born 1978, so he was only 41 years old at the time of his passing. Considering his notable status, it's conceivable we could find enough information to get his profile up, but at the same time, I'm thinking his parents are still living, which means he'd be fairly isolated as it relates to being able to see family and get a connection going. I will wait to see if anyone is anxious to give it a try, but I will probably not be the first to create a profile for him for now.

As far as I can tell, there's no profile established for him as of yet.
I'm not well-versed on Italian research, so I may let someone else take a first stab at getting a profile up for him.

I just saw the news that musician Charlie Daniels passed away today. He is a member of the Country Music Hall Of Fame, since I have the sub-project for inductees into the CMHOF, I am interested in making sure his profile is properly categorized, etc.

He was born in 1936 in North Carolina (according to Wikipedia). I suspect there may be an existing profile (I've ran into several while compiling the list on CMHOF inductees) but can't confirm.

please see the Country Music Hall Of Fame sub project. for details.

On 5 July died the Olympic Champion in Decathlon 1964, Willi Holdorf, and yesterday died Finn-Christian Jagge, a Norwegian Alpine Skier, who was also Olympic Champion in Slalom in Albertville 1992. Especially about Jagge I am extremely sad, I actually liked the Norwegian runners of his generation very much....

Well. Colour me astonished. Anne McCaffrey, Hugo winner, Nebula winner, and Science Fiction Hall of Fame member, she of dragons and crystals and ships who sang, did not have a WikiTree profile! This has now been rectified.

One of my favourite authors!!

I love her Crystal Singer series, the Ships who Sang series and the Rowan/Damia (tower & hive) series as well.
Thanks, Greg! She was on one of my lists somewhere, so I'll dust off my Hugo/Nebula list and see if I can mark her off. I read much of her Dragonriders of Pern series, and am going back through all my old books to recycle them so that others might be able to enjoy them as I did. However, I seem to remember wanting to hold onto these for a little bit longer. I really did enjoy them the first time, and might enjoy them a second as well.
Oh, I LOVE her!  Thanks for making the profile! I have read almost all of the books that I could get my hands on that she authored - even a few that were not sci-fi/fantasy. There were a few I set down, but most of her series were just delightful. Anyone ever read "The Coelura"? Still read it whenever I come across it.

Very sad -- actress Naya Rivera is presumed dead after going missing while boating on Lake Piru.

She has a profile but is unconnected so far: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rivera-1321

I believe they have recovered her body and performed an autopsy already. Very sad news that she left this world so soon over something as tragic as an accidental drowning. Even more tragic that her child was left behind waiting for his mother who never resurfaced. I honestly can't imagine...

And from what I heard, 3 other separate threads on her. I did do a hunt for her husband and was surprised that he has not been created on WikiTree as of yet. With him still living, I won't mention his name (although I doubt it's a stretch to believe most won't figure it out anyway), but I suspect someone might make him now that his wife is out there. Just remember to put the project as co-manager while he's living and that protects him from accidental deletion down the road (which has happened upon occasion if the original PM stops participating prior to his death).

this notable is now connected https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Parrish-4153

bumped into his unconnected branch while working on an undated orphan Decoursey gedcom profile during DD challenge. once I date and source the profile, I look for parents and siblings that might be in WikiTree and was able to connect his branch through that process.

Well done!!!
Woo - I really like his paintings. I'm guessing the originals are WAY out of my price range (and would likely clash with my non-artsy home), but they are very detailed and the ones on the profile strike me as calming to gaze upon and reflect.

I've been working on an Academy Award winner and it took me awhile, but I believe he'll be connected tonight. Award winning cinematographer, Jack Cardiff, OBE.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gran-149

He would have been easier, but his parents were vaudeville comedians and changed their name after they had their child, which made records challenging initially because they were on the move a lot and also because of the name change. Once I was able to verify the name properly, it was a matter of time before I was able to locate a connection through his Woodbridge line.
