Hello, my name is (Mr.) Kerry Howell. I am researching my father's family tree. My mother's is very well documented and lots of relatives and DNA matches on that side.
My Grandmother was an inpatient at the Napa California State Asylum (she was kicked in the head by a horse), when she became pregnant at age 46 with my father. The man (Mr. Y), was not her husband and there is no record of him. For that matter, he was born in the state hospital in June 1930, but there is no record of him or his mother anywhere in any census for 1930.
Having done a y-DNA test on FamilyTreeDNA, I had two Y-DNA matches both with the last name Wesner.
Bingo, there is a last name. I have built a 1000+ person tree of the Wesner family and added all my known DNA match information. Using DNA painter, I build several What Are The Odds tables each focusing more on a specific branch of the Wesner line. The last one gave said that my father's grandfather was most likely a 1/2 brother to the known family line. That would most likely break the family name line, though his son "Y" would still carry the Y-DNA forward to my father.
There is also the question of "Y"'s mother. She is also unknown. I do have DNA matches that I cannot identify in a Leeds table. And looking for input on how to move forward.
