Advice before adding father of this pre-1700 Prickett profile?

+1 vote

I can add a father to the profile of William Prickett. This is who I can add:

  • Christopher Prickett B1643 D 1707 Son of Thomas Prickett B 1614 and Elizabeth Helme
  • Thomas father Allan Prickett B 1587 who was married to Ann Chambers B 1595 and Mary Bland B 1587 all from Westmorland England
  • Christopher Married Elizabeth Garnett B 1648
  • Married 6 May 1682 Kendal, Westmorland England

These are the sources I am using:

  • England Select Marriages 1538 - 1973
  • English Origins of New England Families second series vol 1

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

I did the biography for Walter Chamber, the brother of Ann Chamber. Walter married Elizabeth Prickett, most probably the sister of Alan Prickett.

I did not create Elizabeth Prickett's profile, but Walter's sister Ann Chamber is attached to his. There are several Prickett profiles that are not attached to the one you are referring to. If you do search for more reliable sources be sure to connect them into that family.

Where did you find your sources? This is the link to the Walter Chamber profile. You can follow through his sister Ann, then her husband Alan Prickett, to see where the family may need to be connected if what you have is the correct family.

Alan Prickett and Ann Chamber's marriage is in Dugdale's Visitation. That link should open to the correct page.

I also found a marriage record for Alan and Mary Bland in 1612. I also found a birth record for Alan Prickett born in 1587 born to William Prickett. Elizabeth Prickett was born 1591 to William Prickett in Westmoreland, England. I do not think that Thomas Prickett was Alan's father. These records are on findmypast.
Hi Laura, Thank you for your reply, Very interesting that you did the Biogrophy of Alan Chambers. Yes you are correct, William and Elizabeth are Prickett siblings, and there father is William Prickett B abt 1558 Natland (Hall) Westmorland. He was married to Ann and Dorothy Macreth also born abt 1558 Westmorland England.

You said you did not think that Thomas was Alan's father. No he was not the father. William is Alan's father. But Thomas B:1614 Natland, Westmorland. is (not) Alan's son, Is that what you ment?  This is what I have                Thomas Prickett Baptised 8 May 1614 Kendall Westmorland,  Father Allan Prickett  FHL Film No 0092465 IT 3, 0924746 IT 4   That is in the   "In the England, select Birth and Christenings 1538  to 1975"                                  or film No 14716 84 Item 23, Which I do trust the England Births and deaths,  Please let me know if I can add it on, I do not want to put incorrect info as I do believe in 100%        I do appreciate your help, Thank you My Great Grandfather  was Robert Gaskill and his mother was Jane Prickett The family were all from Kendal, Cumbria Westmorland. Robert immigrate to South Africa in 1922.  Thank you once again kind regards, Yolande Hibbert

I see that you have the film and item number for that source, so you must be using a reliable source. I asked because some people use Ancestry marriage records. Those records have a very similar title. Those can be used but with caution. Some actually are the records but many are titled 'England Births and Christenings year-year', but if you read all the source information the information actually came from multiple online trees, not records.

I may have misunderstood you. Did you mean 'Thomas son of Alan Prickett'? The way it was written I thought it looked like you were saying that Thomas was the father of Alan Prickett. In the sentence before that, you said that "Christopher son of Thomas". So when you next put "Thomas father Alan", I thought you were saying that Thomas was the father of Alan. So, Thomas was Alan's son.

In answer to your question, if you have sources with film and item numbers, they came from actual records. Yes, you can use them. The book is listed on google.books. You may be accessing it through Ancestry. The book should be fine too. If you are using it through Ancestry it may be better to cite the source using google.books. Since it is available and is free so that others could access it also.

Thank you, I actually did the profile for Walter Chamber. They are connected to the Prickett's since both Walter and his sister married Prickett's. When I saw your question I remembered the name.

Now, that you have brought it to my attention, I am going to add Alan born 1587's birth record to his profile. Good luck it should only take adding a couple of generations to connect them together. If you need any help accessing a record let me know and I will see if I can help. Best to you, smiley

Thank you Laura, for your assistance you have been a star. I will see what I can add with sources that I have. Great to have someone who is also interested in the same family. Take care Yolande

Thank you, Yo,

That is very kind of you to say. smiley

England select marriages is a generic term, do you have the actual sources?

Also the same for England origins of New England families, thanks

Yes I do, tried to copy and paste but did not allow me to.
Findmypast is a problem for me. I copy and paste it to my own profile, in edit mode, then copy again and post into G2G, works well .
Thank you Marion, I have added and put what I have. Taken a while, searching and confirming all correct, Take care Yolande.
