I am interested in communicating with anyone who shares the same ancestors. My family tree is on another website.
I’m trying to locate information on John Walker, my 6th great-grandfather. He is the father of John Walker Woods (born about 1756 Halifax, Nova Scotia; died about 1844 St Clair County, Illinois). John Walker immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada from Ireland, Scotland or England. He supposedly died in Canada.
To explain why John Walker’s son had the surname of Woods, around 1776 young Walker was forced to fight with the British, although his loyalty was with the Colonists. Young Walker overpowered a colony soldier and stole his uniform and assumed his last name, Woods. After war, he kept Woods and went by Walker Woods.
I’m guessing elder John Walker was born about 1700-30? He’s a ghost. Any info will be helpful.
