I added a "valid" email to an account, and WT says it's not valid, now what can I do?

I want to invite a Cousin to join WikiTree, so entered his email address in his profile, WikiTree thinks the email is not valid, so won't send the invite.

Is it possible there is already an account using that email?
Is there a + sign in the email address? WikiTree doesn't accept + as a valid character in an email address.

Hello Jerry.

If there is a "+" sign in the email address. See

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/944377/having-a-plus-sign-in-the-mail-address?show=944377#q944377

Try to send a separate email to the email address you have.  Perhaps there is a typo, missing or misread letter or some other problem with the email. Happens to me a lot!  Also, if you have an email already from Simon-3273, copy and paste the email address from the email to the invitation.
No, if you enter an email that is already in use, WikiTree  will tell you that is already in use.
There are no special characters in the Email Address, only the "@" sign and a "period".
Having reviewed some of the comments sp far, I believe I've found what wikiTree doesn't like.. (IBM debug skills at work), there is a period in the username field of the email address, "g.simon@domain name".. I bet that is the problem, and WikiTree folks should fix it.

It is a valid email address, I use it all the time, and did do the copy & paste in insure that it was entered correctly, but WikiTree still thinks it is invalid.  FYI: I spent the better part of 33 years as an IBM Field Engineer so do know my way around Computers & Programming, this is clearly a bug in the WikiTree Email verification software....

Upon further research on email names, I found the standard rule is as stated:
USERNAME(local part)
The username, or local part, can consist of up to 64 characters long and consist of any combination of letters, numbers, and other ASCii 7bit special characters. Periods are acceptable as long as they are not the first or last characters, and they are not consecutive.
Therefore the email in question: "g.simon@domain-name", conforms to the internet standard, and should be acceptable to WikiTree.
