connecting Hollywood celebrities that in the next generation will mean nothing to nobody.  Better to focus on connecting people like Nicola Tesla, Alfred Wegener, and the like. People who contributed real substance.

Right now our Notables project is running a challenge to connect notable people, and you can see in our thread that we're getting a variety of politicians, actors, nurses, religious figures, and scientists. 

Sometimes, it's fun to connect celebrities and use them as a waypoint to open up other interesting stories. I'm one of the people working on connecting Whoopi, and I've ended up adding profiles for a bunch of mixed race people living in Rhode Island before the American civil war. Now I'm off to find more sources so I can have some historical context for how these communities formed.

WikiTree also connects farmers, teachers, and grocery store clerks. We never know who will be important to the next generation, but everyone is important to someone.

In other words, people are free to focus on whomever they like on WikiTree. For some, that's Tesla. For others, Conan O'Brien. For still others, Great Aunt Susie. All are legitimate choices and all grow the tree we're working on together.
