Find a Grave Photos

What is the current policy on FAG photos. I thought they were not allowed without permission from the photographer, but someone on wikitree is telling people if you put the full citation it is usable. I read the page on the policy and I did not see that you can copy the full citation and that's okay/ Please clarify.

Patricia's answer is correct.  You need to seek permission from the Find a Grave photographer before sharing.  I've always asked and I've never been told no.

It is my understanding that we are to ask permission from the owner of the image on FindAGrave, or any other website, but no one stops folks from uploading them daily. I've never been refused use of a photo,  by anyone I asked permission from.

From our Help Index on use of photos:

How do you know if you have permission to upload a photo?

Generally speaking, you have permission to upload a photo if:

You generally do not have permission if you downloaded it from another website.

Commercial sites such as Ancestry.com and Find-A-Grave do not generally allow republishing images. Even non-commercial sites may disallow public sharing of downloaded images. You need to check their terms of use. For example, here is the Wisconsin Vital records terms of use.

All I do is add the link to the Find-A-Grave memorial. The person who is viewing the profile can then open the link if they want to see it.

Sara,

What I have done is e-mailed the photographer and asked the person to upload their photo to the WikiTree profile.  I provide them with the WikiTree ID and the link to where to upload the photo.  Hopefully, the person will do so.
