Like most children my father, Chick Lovelace, had a favorite toy, his teddy bear. This is a 1920 photo of him and his bear. My favorite toy was also a teddy bear. From what I was told, my mother said my teddy bear was looking moth eaten, and it made me cry.smiley

What a wonderful photo, Alexis! The little bear following along for the ride behind your dad made me smile.  It must have been a cold day, but your dad looks like he's prepared for it. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you Robin for your sweet comment.
I Can fully understand I still have my teddy bear, what a amazing sweet photo Alexis

Do the teddy still exist ?

Thank you for sharing this magnificent photo
No, and I am sad to say that my grandmother had saved his bear. When she died, I was only 25, and I had two people helping me clear out her house. I regret that I did not tell them to save the bear; they were so good to help me with my daughter, who was a toddler. I often was not paying attention to what was going out the door.

Susan, I am glad that you were smart and saved your teddy  bear.
My sweet Alexis how sad about the teddy bear

I still love mine

Thank You for replying
I had a very worn Teddy when I was little that must have been my mother's before me. When I moved it had been in the cellar for some time and I threw away Teddy and a rag doll my grandmother had made thinking I now had my own children's favorite stuffed animals and didn't need these two musty ones. I still regret it!

This is my favorite photo.

I love this photo because it shows me on the arms of my grandfather, my father and my great-grandfather about 1960.

Four generations of the eldest sons:

Gustav Lewerenz (born 1874)- Martin Lewerenz (born 1897)- Heinz Gustav August Lewerenz (born 1925)- Dieter Martin Lewerenz (born 1958). The photo was taken in the garden of the Lewerenz home in Leezen, Kreis Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Deutschland.

Dieter, you are so fortunate to have such a wonderful photo of four generations of your family, and you are absolutely adorable.
Wonderful photo! Thank you for sharing it, Dieter.

This is me with a great-uncle that would become my family history mentor and since he would have no children, I became the closest experience he had to a child.  Despite being a generation removed from me he was my favorite uncle.  Sure miss you, Doug.

Jennifer, thank you for sharing your wonderful photo and your  great uncle Doug. Glad you had such a great mentor to get you involved in your family history.

This is my favorite photo of one of my Swedish 4th great uncles, Anders (Andrew) Gustaf Eriksson (1862-1941). I LOVE the hair! This photo was taken in Sweden before he went to America in 1881. He was born in Nysund, Örebro, Sweden and died in North Dakota. He was one of the first in the family to leave Sweden for America.

Missy, thank you for sharing your handsome uncle Andrew Eriksson with us. I also love his hair.
Alexis, Thank you for your kind words.

Hope you don't mind, it was an interesting picture so I took a couple minutes to change the contrast a bit and removed a couple spots, kind of subtle changes, uploaded it to the space for this post. What do you think?

Rob, I love it! He is even cuter in higher contrast. wink It was an orange photo that I converted to b&w, but had not played around with it yet. I love how everything pops out more. Thank you!!

My Great grandparents Franklin Raymer and Mabel Lena Hoover wedding picture Feb 22, 1910. Mabel's wedding dress was her mother Julia's and was handmade by her aunt in 1872. Almost 150 years old, the dress is still in perfect condition and is hanging in my closet. My favorite photo of my Great Grandparents

by Ron Raymer G2G6 Mach 5 (53.8k points)
Ron, this such a beautiful photo, and what a treasure you have to actually have this dress. The fabulous family history you have about it, certainly makes it even more special. From the photo—it looks like it has a great deal of detail work, and it must have taken many hours to make such a lovely wedding dress. Thank you for sharing.
Ron what a wonderful photo thank You for sharing

My grandparents retired and moved up into the Sierras in the pine-covered mountains with a small river flowing through their backyard.  We went every summer and some years with the cousins if we were lucky.  We played in the abandoned gold-mining ghost town, we fished for trout on the stream, we hiked, we swam, we just loved it.  The home of our grandparents Paul and Ruth was every kid's dream, it was our favorite.  I do miss them both.

by SJ Baty G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
SJ this is a wonderful photo of your grandparents, sounds like you love them.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful photo
SJ, I wanted to stay in California when we lived in the southern part in the 70’s, but we should have spent time in the northern part too. If my husband could have fished for trout, we might have stayed. Glad you had such wonderful childhood memories with your grandparents, and thank you for sharing their photo.

I have many favorite photos among the 1,000s of photos in the many family albums I have inherited ... yes, my family was almost fanatic when it came to taking picture.

But I have one photo that is among the top pick for a "favorite" ... it is one taken about 1994 ... it includes 5 generations of my family ... and all are first born in their respective generation.

The photo below has my Grandmother, Oma M Allison- Rammel (1895-1995) seated ... then from left to right are: my Grandson, Jamie William Sims (1987-....) ... my Daughter, Brenda Marie Sims (1963-....) ... me-William "Bill" Dale Sims (1941-....) ... my mother, Ruth Ann Rammel-Sims (1918-2006).

Bill, love your photo of five generations; one can certainly understand why it is your favorite. Thank you for sharing.
you've got some good longevity genes in your family!

This photo is a family favourite. My paternal Grandparents Sue and Harry Hills, taken at a granddaughter's wedding in 1950.

by Christine Frost G2G6 Pilot (151k points)
My favorite hat!
I really like this image!  I'm particularly fond of photos that show aspects of personality or character.  Today such photos are most often replaced by the yearbook smile or the selfie with attitude.

To date this is probably one of my favorite pictures in my collection: https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Ferraiolo-5

That's a pic of my grandfather, great-aunt and my great-grandparents shortly after coming to America in the 1920s. I just really like this photo. I have other photos too like of my grandpa Hamel in his uniform with a pipe that I like. But, this one rounds out the top ten for me. Probably because I don't have many pics of my paternal grandfather.

by Chris Ferraiolo G2G6 Pilot (756k points)
I love that they are so dressed up.
Me too!

When Laurie Navan was a toddler, her grandmother grew ill; so she and her mother, Eleanor, moved in with Laurie's grandparents in Trenton, Ontario, so that Eleanor could provide care. Laurie's father, Bill Navan, was a blind musician who worked as an entertainer at Ottawa restaurants and lounges; so he had to stay behind there. After the death of Eleanor's mother (on Laurie's 2nd birthday), Eleanor couldn't bring herself to leave her ailing father behind; so they stayed on in Trenton. Laurie and her parents had to make do with occasional visits from Trenton to Ottawa or vice versa. In this touching photo, Laurie and her Daddy are at Trenton Junction station, waiting for the train that will take him back to Ottawa.

Thank you for sharing this touching photo and story.  I hope the young family was soon reunited for keeps.
Alas not: this was actually the thin edge of the wedge that broke it up a few years later.
Sorry to hear that.

My favourite photo (today) is one of my father as an under five year old with his dog and a dog 'friend'.

My grandpa was a devoted dog dad and had many, many beloved pooches over the course of his life.  I used this picture on a prompt earlier, but it's the only one I have scanned right now of him and his favorite dog, Blue.  Blue held a special place in his heart, and he said she was the finest dog he ever had.  She loved going places with him, even the golf course, and she had a very soulful voice that could stop any quibbling in its tracks.  While he loved telling me about his dogs, it was clear that, out of all of them, he loved Blue the most.

It's hard to choose just one favourite picture, but this is one of them. This is my great-grandparents, Thomas and Margaret on their wedding day. They lived in Chicago, Illinois up until the stock market crash in 1929 when the family moved to Canada, where living was less expensive. My middle name is after my grandmother, whom pass away a few months before I was born. I've heard stories of how great a woman she was. My great-grandfather spent many years in the Toronto area building homes, many of which are still standing today.

When can I see you?  This sweet postcard from my great grandfather to his toddler daughter - my grandmother - written when he was away working - has always been one of my favorites.  https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Sheppard-1276-10
