I have found some information on a Charles Becker that moved to Oregon in the late 1800s   Not sure that this is your Charles, having trouble making the connect.   Do you think that could be him?  Or are you looking for more information on his ancestors?

Hi.

I have  a copy of a 1960's newspaper article about Charles Becker.  At that time, he was living on his ranch at Westfall, Oregon,  North of Harper Oregon,  west of the the Malhuer County Oregon town of Vale.

My Grandfather acquired a set of gold scales Mr Becker used in his butcher shop at Westfall. Evidently, chinese immigrants were involved on a gold claim nearby,  and needed to trade gold dust for beef at the trun of the century, about 1900. Becker was a distinguished Oregon pioneer,  and was invited to dedication of the newly completed Oregon Highway 30 in 1923 by President Harding.  He was a special guest and invited to sit with the presidential party during the ceremony.

Mr. Arment,

Charles Becker had his butcher shop in Eldorado and is listed there in the 1870 Census under the name of Charles Decker with his wife Nancy and daughter Verona.  Mr. Becker raised his cattle in Cow Valley about 8 to 10 miles away.  Sometime in the 1870's the couple had another child and shortly thereafter became ill.  While on a trip toward Boise or another town Nancy and the children died and Charles buried them on a little ridge about two miles west of present day Jamieson, Oregon.  He is mentioned numerous times in Cyrus Locey's diaries and Cyrus sold him butter for sale in his butcher shop in the 1870's.

In the 1880 census Charles is alone and living at least temporarily in southern Baker County.  Soon though he moved to Westfall and remarried and began developing his "Becker Ranch."  We have documents, photos etc. at the Stone House Museum in Vale, Oregon related to Charles Becker.

I am curious about his gold scales as we are writing a book about Eldorado, which includes commerce and I would like to obtain a photo of the scales.
