Can the G2G have more categories?

While I appreciate this is a free website, I find the G2G Genealogy page almost impossible to use. Is it possible to have the noticeboard divided into a couple of broad regions - e.g  North America, British Isles, Europe, Rest of World, or even finer grades than that. The RootsChat free website is by far the best genealogy help line I have found mostly because it has good categorisation, so 'rookies' can connect with experts pretty quickly. Currently, G2G is completely hit and miss. I would like to help, but have found  only one message to respond to so far.

I'd never heard of RootsChat, but looked it up and you're right. It's a pretty neat site and it does have LOTS of categories.

Until someone responds who can give you an informed answer, you might be interested in reading a conversation using the following link:

About 1/3 of the way down, there's a discussion about pros and cons of having more categories.

Thanks for wanting to help, John.

The direction we're heading in is "tags" instead of categories. You can already follow specific tags -- usually surnames -- with RSS feeds, but that's not user friendly at all. What we'll be adding soon is a much friendlier system for following the tags that interest you.

So, bear with us a little longer and I think you'll get what you're after.
