Looking for the origins of Gwendoline Morgan, born 1 Oct 1893

Birth location unknown.  She was apparently an only child, and her father was a Coppersmith.  Gwendoline married Harry Rawcliffe Brook in Sheffield in July 1919, and they went on to live in Leicester.  She died on Arran in 1979.

Her descendants generally have an enormous wealth of knowledge concerning their antecedents, but Gwendoline remains a mystery.

There are pages and pages of information about her in a National Archive document, as she signed up for WAAC service in 1917 and went to Boulogne as a shorthand typist.  The document is free ( just register with them first ) to download from the National Archives .  At first it gives date of birth as 11 Dec 1894 but in the document itself it gives it as 11 Dec 1893, which is the same as on the 1939 register.

You will find her address in Leicester, her mother's address in Sheffield. Her employment and education history etc etc. It confirms that she was an only child and that her father, George Morgan was a "Tin, Iron, Brass, and  Copper-Plate Worker" at J.B.Topham, Wicker, Sheffield.  One of her references is by A.W. Brook, her future father-in-law.

These are the details which you need to order her marriage certificate ( also available from the GRO, but costs more as not available as pdf ):

Thanks so much, Joe!!  This, plus your other two comments, is fantastic information.  I'm going to be busy .... :)
Hey Joe,

I thought you'd be interested to hear that your one tip has enabled me to trace Gwendoline's lineage back four generations, on her mother's side, with quite a lot of illuminating detail.  (By contrast, I've been less successful with her father, George Morgan, whose parentage remains a complete mystery.)

I'd doing all this on ancestry, where the research resources are more comprehensive, but when I've got everything fully sorted out - with the supporting detail in good order - I'll build it into WikiTree.

Richard

Excellent ! Thanks for the update.  For tracing George's parents you probably need to start with the Morgan/Cox marriage certificate, which should tell you George's father's name at least. ( but it could be blank.... ) . This one fits with what you have on WikiTree so far:

Marriages Dec 1891   (>99%)
Cox  Mary Elizabeth T    Newport, M.  Vol.11a  Page:371
