Head of Jehovah's Witnesses Dies On West Coast SAN DIEGO, Calif.. Jan. 10. (UP) Judge Joseph Franklin Rutherford, founder and leader of an estimated 2.000,000 Jehovah's Witnesses, died at his palatial "King David's" mansion here Friday. Harvey Lewis Jr., mortician, revealed Saturday. News of Judge Rutherford's death did not leak out until Saturday when Lewis revealed the body was being held awaiting instructions for burlaL Rutherford was 72 years old and leader of one of the largest sects In the world. He claimed a following of more than 2,000,000 in 36 countries. Death occurred la the 20-room Spanish mansion which Judge Rutherford had built less than 10 years ago as a home for King David "when he returns to earth." He Is survived by his wife. Mary, and a son, Malcolm C. Rutherford.
