Gerrit Hiram Chaffee (1851 - 1891) Dr. Brace’s Colorado Springs Sanatorium?

+1 vote

Gerrit H. Chaffee born August 26, 1851. The son of Dan Chaffee (1815 - 1906) and Sophronia Pease (1827 - 1906). Gerrit married Jane Sophia Weldon (1846 - 1915). He passed away July 22, 1891 at the age of 40.

We need help with interpreting details of his obituary. It says he was at a Dr. Braces Sanitarium in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Is there any info about this sanitarium? Is the name spelled correctly? He apparently had lung issues. Did he have TB? Maybe a pandemic? Was his death location Colorado Springs?

I have taken photographs of his gravestone to help in his genealogy research

Thank you

word choice - Sanitarium vs. Sanatorium - English Language & Usage Stack Exchange What is the difference between a sanitarium and a sanatorium?
The terms sanatorium and sanitarium are interchangeable, however, sanitarium is primarily a North American word. The difference between the words is their origin, though it is not much of a difference. The word sanitorium is derived from the Late Latin word sanitorius, which means health-giving.

The odds are that he had TB.  My great-grandmother came to Colorado for tuberculosis.  A lot has been written about tuberculosis immigrants to Colorado.  A Wikipedia article on Tuberculosis treatments in Colorado Springs seems somewhat thorough:  But many individual doctors set up their own facilities, and this might be what Dr. Brace's Sanitorium was. I found nothing for that facility online in Colorado's historic newspapers, but a search of city directories might help.
