Challenge of the Week: Improve Star Profiles [closed]

Hi WikiTreers,

imageWe have been developing a way to identify the most-visited profiles on WikiTree. These profiles have an outsized influence on how our tree is perceived by non-members and how well our profiles rank in Google search results. Improving them will help all our profiles be visited more often. (For more explanation, see this post.)

Aleš has prepared a report of likely suggestions in these "star profiles."  Click here for the list.

Can you help improve them?

The member who has reviewed the most suggestions in the list by 11:59pm EDT on Sunday night will get the Winner badge and the bragging rights. But in this challenge, even more than usual, our entire community will win.

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

PS If you want to chat or coordinate what you are working on with others, in addition to this G2G post there is a handy spreadsheet courtesy of Steven Tibbetts.

Do you plan another clean up of profiles with the notable star stickers, not only the profiles that had been visited over 1000 times? This could be a future focus for data doctors.

Love to help improve Our Tree! Question for you seasoned doctors, if you're just fixing formatting to correct a clear typo in a name or a ref tag or something, do you *ask* and wait for the profile manager to fix it? Or is it more efficient (seems to me) to just correct the problem?

Something very obvious as in a clear typo, or if for sure you are formatting to the Wikitree standard.  I would just do it and list what you did in the change field.  The only exception is if I see the user -profile manager is fairly new and is not using inline sources, I don't change the format to inline.

Thanks Loretta, I just found that guidance also in the New Member How To Pages - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Communication_Before_Editing

Appreciate everyone's hard work here!

Yep, Jonathan I try to follow all those examples.   I have one cousin manager that frustrates me a bit as she has a whole bunch of locked profiles in our mutual lines that are not of recent times which she uploaded via gedcom making many many duplicates and unsourced and just plain GEDCOM junk.  She became inactive and unresponsive last year, and never added me to the trusted list of the profiles despite my requests. But, I now know to just to do what I can and leave comments on the bottom of the profile of other errors I see.   Eventually, I will have to contact Wikitree mediators about the old profiles I wish to edit to get them unlocked.
Or follow the prompts for dealing with an 'Unresponsive Manager.' Even easier, if she has them dated and they're old enough, click on 'Open profile.' I think both can be found in the drop-down menu on the profile in question.
Thanks Stephanie:  I got the same reply Private Message from Sheryl Moore (I think it was).  I am traveling currently but still have it in my inbox for a to do in about a month.
