Are media or image source files for census records preferred?

I'm wondering if I should bother uploading image files for census, birth, death, marriage etc. Or does this community prefer just the source info with reference. Also, if the records are uploaded how can I link source and image.

Thanks fleshing out my first profile.

Personally, I wouldn't upload any census images, especially USA ones. A good source citation, especially one that points to a non-pay site, will get people there without cluttering up the profile. One of a kind documents that are in your personal possession would be a different matter since they aren't available to anyone else. B/M/D records depend on where and when they were obtained. Many will say no copying for any purpose. That is a "license" from the issuing entity. Copyright and license terms can get complicated.

Unless you are personally scanning images from originals you hold, you will probably be uploading copy-protected images.  Government documents aren't copyrighted, but the images of them produced by others may be . . . or you may be infringing on usage clauses.

I appreciate the comments you made re copyright and usages. I definitely need to consider both and I haven't yet. So, thanks for that.

I wondering about whether they are considered value added or just noise (i.e. they clog up the view of the profile or take up too much database space).

Because I would have to upload some thousand documents (pdf-files) I prefer to write that I have a personal copy in my private files. So everybody who is interesting in a special document can PM me and I will send him/her a copy of the document.
