Improvement: Move Close Account menu option to 'My Wikitree'

I might be the only one, but quite often (especially later in the day/evening) when I want to click the link to the G2G forum, I accidentally hit 'Close Account'.

A more logical place for me would be the 'My Wikitree' menu and not the 'Help' menu. The items are ordered alphabetically, so I assume changing the order is difficult, but this option would suit better on the bottom.

I've lost count of the times I have done that.
I don't think I've ever actually hit the link, but it gives me a fright ever so often when I'm headed for g2G.
Indeed. I've also clicked on Close Account instead of G2G a lot of times. Luckily you also have to click another button to really close your account.
I agree that this button should be moved. Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Why not access g2g from "my Wikitree"?  (I had no idea what was meant by this question, and had to go hunt down where "close account" was.)  If "close account" is moved to the "my Wikitree" link, I hope it is at the bottom - underneath log out - and not up anywhere near anything I use.

I agree it is too easy to accidentally click.

It really should be at the bottom. Both the My WikiTree and profile-#### menus are already very long. On My WikiTree alphabetically would make it too easy to pick between Badges and Contributions
Melanie, I don't use the link in "my WikiTree" because that's a link to my g2g feed. I prefer to use the link in the Help menu, which goes to the whole forum. I guess my interests are to varied to be captured by a feed.
I think it would make perfect sense for Close Account to be in the My WikiTree menu.

Personally, G2G is a tab I never close. laugh I open WT on other tabs to source, edit, etc. It sounds like a very good idea in general, so I'm throwing in my yes vote for the change.

@ Eva - but it's easy enough to go from there to "full g2g", or so I have found. But, then, I also have g2g linked from my bookmarks bar, so never have to worry about it.  :)

I think moving the Close Account link out of the drop-down menu would be a better solution. In my opinion, this link should be separated from normal, day-to-day functions.

Perhaps we could move it to the dark-green section at the bottom of the page. I presume that most members who want to close their accounts ask how to do so in G2G anyway.

@Lindy, I like that suggestion.

If you access g2g from the Help menu, then 'Close Account' is immediately above the G2G link.  Those of us with 'fat finger syndrome' have almost closed our accounts by mistake time after time.

It's always bugged me that access to the forums is under the help menu. This is terrible interaction design. How many new or existing members don't even know there are forums?

I think it should be either a stand alone item or under both My WikiTree and My ID menu items, just like Profile.

The G2G is actually a FAQ part of the site, but used as a forum. From that perspective it is logical to place it under help.

If moving would be possible... I would love to see some modern software used for the forum and leave this for the FAQ. But that is a bit out of scope of this request/post.

You already can access G2G from those 2 menu items, Allison.

I usually click the G2G Profile link under my profile id menu.

And the My WikiTree menu has a link to G2G Feed.

Well, a FAQ and a forum are completely different things. There really can't be any confusion, unless someone doesn't know the difference. :)

I would love to see a modern forum as well. I mean, we can't even sort or filter posts. SMH. :P

As far as being under the other menus, well, clearly they are hidden! Obviously, I'm not the only one that can't "see" them. :) Unfortunately, bolding a couple of the options under those menus really makes the rest of the menu "invisible."
