How can I get the quantity of descendants?

+5 votes
I'm looking for a way to get the quantity of all descendants of a given profile.  I also want the quantity of Y-DNA descendants, but I found a work-around for it by going to the DNA Descendants tool, selecting X/Y-chromosome list, then use the browser to search on surname to get count and then subtract 8+X (for the 8 times surname appears outside the list) and the quantity of times surname shows up with X-chromosomes (usually ranges from 0-4).

This is for a research project where I'm trying the track over time the increase in # of descendants entered into WikiTree for various patriarchs.

From a profile, go to Family Tree and Tools. Descendant List will give you 5 generations. Family List will give you a list of ancestors or if you select descendants and search again a list of descendants.

Thanks, I’m looking for quantity, and when I tried the family list like you suggested, it said

Here are 2415 descendants of James Rowland.   That’s what I need.

Thanks again.
