500px-Steve_s_Tools-29.pngDid you know there are hundreds of One Name Studies available for adoption?

Some of these are Name Studies where the original PM/creator is no longer active, or where a member has pared down their involvement to focus on another Study.

Do you see a Name Study you are interested in? Let us know in the answers below and we can help you get it up and running!

Note:To coordinate a name study, the requirements are at least 90 days as a member of WikiTree AND 1000 contributions made.  Otherwise, you may participate in a name study at any level of membership/contributions.

closed with the note: To adopt a name study, request in this post:https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1076102/do-you-want-to-participate-in-a-one-name-study

I noticed there are projects for Dickson, Dixon and Dykes, but none for Dicks or Dix.

Should all of these be considered variants?
Angela, are you asking for a Dicks or Dix study?
I think I am. I have been stuck at my great grandfather for so long, it's making me a little nuts.

I am by no means a veteran of genealogy research, and I'm not sure I would be the one to coordinate a project, but would like to collaborate with others

I will turn over the Shipp Name study to whomever wants it.

Well, I went thru the list and couldn't help wishing I had some Wildblood's in the family tree. Fun name!

I have been away for a short number of weeks.  May I take up the Haywood Name Study and the Murch Name Study again, please? (I was the coordinator before my absence)

I could take care of the Betts Name Study. Betts was the first name I started researching, oh, about, ahem, 30 years ago.
by Lucy Selvaggio-Diaz G2G6 Pilot (827k points)
Hi Lucy, you should be all setup now!

And 30 years? You can't be a day over 21!

While the Blackburn study is not in this list, I had reached out to the original PM a while back with no response. If that ever comes up for adoption, I'm willing to take it over.
by Eric Weddington G2G6 Pilot (518k points)
Hi Eric, looking into this now and will send you a PM shortly.
I’d be willing to join the Blackburn study as well.
Amy, I added your name to the membership on the Blackburn Name Study page.

I would like to adopt Mathis, please. I would also like to start a Mathias One Name Study. I looked but couldn’t find one. Or if it could be a Mathis/Mathias study combined, since the last name was very often used interchangeably.
by Living Gaenzle G2G1 (1.2k points)
Jennifer, I will PM you.

I'd like to adopt the Wallen Name Study
by Roy Wallen G2G1 (2.0k points)

I created the study and you are free to add your own research page and link it! Please read: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Getting_Started_with_a_One_Name_Study

Thanks Roy!

Many thanks, Natalie.  I'm trying to read through the "Getting Started ..." guide but struggling to find the study you created and set up the Name Study page.

I would be interested in a Kirkland one name study.  I don't see one in the list, but I did locate this space:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Kirkland

Perhaps it could be switched over to a ONS and I could participate?  Let me know.  Thanks, Steve and Natalie!

by Darlene Athey-Hill G2G6 Pilot (539k points)

Hi Darlene, you are all setup now! See Kirkland Name Study. If you send a Trusted List request, we will get you added as the page manager.

Also, please see our Getting Started Guide.

I would like to take up Mounteer (my maiden name) when I get to the 90 days/1,000 contributions limit.  I have been doing this for years on Ancestry and have an extensive tree built up there.  I can trace pretty well anybody with the name Mounteer in North America or England back to an original ancestor in in England in the early 1700's.
by Laurie Yoon G2G Crew (350 points)
Laurie, I can add the study and you can add the category/sticker to Mounteer profiles. When you're ready, you can request to take over as coordinator.
Do I flag just the profiles for people named Mounteer or for related people (that married in) and children (descended from Mounteer's but not named Mounteer)? not really sure how these one name studies work.
It's up to you to decide if you want to add the spouses and/or descendants with other surnames. After you decide, you can post that on the page. Just create a section under what is there and call it ===Eligibility for the Study=== or something, then explain who gets included.

Good morning - I would like to volunteer to coordinate the "Griffin" surname study.
by Terri Davis G2G6 Mach 1 (16.3k points)
Terri, that study has 4 managers already. You are welcome to join and create your own research pages to link to the study! I will add you to the list of members of the study.
OK - nevermind..."Too many cooks ...etc"  :)  I assumed that it was in need of adoption

I would like to START 2 Name studies please.  One for my maiden name Schauer and one for my mother's maiden name, Estep.

Will add these shortly.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Estep_Name_Study Estep is ready to go. Just request addition to the trusted list.

I would like to also adopt the Breed and Newhall Name Studies. The Breed and Newhall families of Lynn, Massachusetts intermarried a few times and both are in multiple ancestral lines for my mother-in-law.
by Emily Holmberg G2G6 Pilot (155k points)
I will PM you, Emily.

I'd like to add COX (Jerry's Notes) and SWEENEY (surname of my first husband and children).  I am already studying these names it would be easier to manage if they showed up on the category page with my other studies.
by Pat Credit G2G6 Pilot (185k points)
If you already have three name studies, that is the limit. Would you like to be added to the trusted list?
Natalie,

Being added to the trusted list is more than adequate for my purposes. Thank you.
Ok just request addition on those, and I'll add you (I can't add you unless I have an email address).

Natalie
Natalie, Sorry about my duh moment. I sent the trusted list requests.

I am happy to take on the Lawler study, but could it be renamed the Lawler, Lawlor, Lalor study to pick up the three name variants?

John CHerry
by John Cherry G2G6 Mach 1 (12.0k points)
The variants are listed on the page, and the we use one name for the space page.

It's ready to go. Just request addition to the trusted list and I'll add you.
