Welcome Sam.  James Watson's profile has no sources, so its accuracy is difficult to judge.  Perhaps you connected your mother to the wrong James?  It would help if you provide more info about how the current connections differ from what you expected.

Edit to add:  Scotland's People has two births of James Veitch Watson who could have been the one to marry Mary Cook Hastie in 1921.  One (Watson-4960) was registered in Cockpen in 1900.  The other (not in WikiTree as far as I can tell) was registered in Bridgeton in 1890.  To sort them out, you would have to spend the credits at Scotland's People to see the images of the birth and marriage records, which would show the parents.
