This is a photo of the marriage of Hans Poggensee and Elsa Kruse (the maternal grandparents of my wife) in 1926.

Elsa Kruse was the eldest of 9 sibblings - 8 sisters and one brother. The young woman on the left side in the first row and seven of the the young girls in the two top rows are her sisters.

This is a photo taken in March 1940 of the Long Girls.  They are on their parent's homestead land outside of Ringwood, Oklahoma.  They are left to right: Phoebe, Ruth, Lizzie, Nora, Nellie (my grandmother) and Gracie.  Nora, Lizzie and Gracie are the names of my three rescue cats that occasionally enjoy swiping at each other.

Another wonderful photo Alexia you most have so many photos, and I most say I love everyone of your photos you share, thank you sweet Alexis
Thank you Susan for your sweet comment. I loved all of them; they were such a big part of my life. I think I have as many stories as photos.
I remember these ladies from another photo you posted.  Everyone is wearing black, funeral event maybe?
SJ, you are amazing at figuring out things. Yes, it is a photo taken the day of their father’s funeral. Phoebe is a rebel, and she is not dressed in black. She also was not in black in the photo of her mother’s funeral; she was great fun to be with.
My ex-husband wore a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops to his father's funeral. At least Phoebe is dressed nice!
Oh my Teri, I would have wanted to kill him. Hope his dressing that way did not make the day harder for you.
I was really upset by the lack of respect.  He and the new wife live in Hawaii so they must have thought it was funny. It didn't cause me any problems though.  I think our kids were embarrassed.

Terri
Terri, I can only tell you what I tell my daughter. Often people are unkind to others because of jealousy. Sorry that he was not respectful and your children saw it.

All the little girls in Miss Simmons class at Balance Rock School (grades 1 to 4) were invited to Betsy's birthday party.

by Joyce Vander Bogart G2G6 Pilot (199k points)
I can't see your photo. Would like to.
can you see it now?

No, not yet.  Did you add: Space:52_Photos_Week_31_Girls to "in this image" on the image page?  It appears that the photo is privacy protected.  I'm not sure that's the answer -- maybe someone else can help.

How about now?
Now I see it! Wonderful photo and worth the wait. Was this taken in the 50s (maybe 60s)?  The clothes and hairstyles look like they're from that era.  Thank you for sharing.
April 1950. You can read my story about Balance Rock School under "the Old Country" in last week's story. Betsy just  celebrated her 80th birthday by putting on her mask and going to the store for a piece of tiramisu.
That's a lot of girls!
What a delightful picture!

I"m glad you enjoyed it. Now for the rest of the story:

Nobody came to my 7th birthday party, because I got the measles. I had a party afterwards, though, and all the little girls brought their dolls for a doll show.

In this picture, I am in the back row, far left. Eleanor is in the front row, far left. In 2012, I went to Eleanor's 70th birthday party in Lanesborough.

Betsy is the tall girl next to me. Her sister Judy is peeking out from the last row on the far right. In May 2019, Betsy and I flew to California for Judy's birthday party.

I will try to add a picture of Judy's birthday party. Please let me know if you see it.

Joyce, thank you for sharing such a special photo; you and all the girls are darling with their happy smiles.

The girls all dressed up and a shadow of whoever took the photo??

My Grandmother, Oma M Allison-Rammel (1895-1995), and Great Aunt, Mildred Irene Omelia-Harrington (1890-1934).  The photo must have been taken about 1915??

My grandma and her sister, Charlene, two of the Wintermute sisters.  They were the second and third of four girls.  My grandma was very close to her sisters; their fourth and youngest sister, Nita, passed away decades before and was always lovingly remembered.  Their eldest sister, Dottie, passed away about thirty years ago.  I was never able to meet Aunt Nita (my mom was very young and can't remember her), and I was young when Aunt Dottie passed, though I met her a few times.  I mainly remember her through her art: she was a talented painter, and my grandma displayed some of her paintings.

K., thank you for sharing your family photo. Glad your lovely grandmother had such a good relationship with her sisters. Dottie reminds me so very much of a friend, who was a wonderful lady that I miss.
Thank you so much, Alexis.

This is a picture, as it indicates, of Mahlon and Sara Hess' girls.  Mahlon and Sara had 15 children. Only one of their children died as an infant. They were all born and raised in my hometown of Momence, Illinois.

Mahlon's father, Walter B. Hess was the 9th settler in my home town, and they were known for their farming abilities, as well as being home builders.

Wonderful photo!  I love the dresses!
Thank you Cheryl for sharing such a dear photo; they all are beautiful, and Bonnie and Esther are adorable.
Thank you Both, SJ and Alexis. I should have mentioned that Mahlon is my husband's 2nd great uncle.

Alexis, I think Bonnie and Esther are both adorable also.

The Sheridan girls around 1912. (my grandmother and her little sister)

by Rosalie Neve G2G6 Pilot (174k points)
you sure can tell those two are sisters!  Great picture!
Yes they do look similar in the picture and I was always impressed by how pretty I thought they were.
Rosalie, thank you for sharing the lovely photo; they are gorgeous women, and they look like twins.
Rosalie

They WERE really pretty!

Terri
Wow--they're gorgeous!  They look like actress Emily Deschanel.

I'm going to give this a try.  These are the Coats girls from Brighton, Lorain County, Ohio. The girl holding the baby is Lena Coats. The baby is Goldie Coats, my Grandmother. To the left of the baby is Eva Coats. Behind Eva is Ada Coats. And the cutie on the right with the dark hair is Edna Coats.  I knew 3 of the 5 girls, Goldie (my Grandma), Aunt Eva and Aunt Edna.  I love this picture!

Magic picture
Teri, I absolutely love your photo too. They all are precious, and their all being dressed in white really makes the photo so special. Thank you for sharing your lovely family.
thank you!  I think it's pretty special. I knew them as middle aged and elderly ladies so it's wonderful to see them as children.
I wonder if they were indeed dressed in white? In a black and white photo, any light color would show as white, just as any dark color would show as black.
I don't know! No one that was there is alive anymore, so there's no one to ask.

Terri
This is an interesting hobby! Until I saw the remark that "they are all in white", I was imagining everyone who lived before the advent of color photography as living in a black-and-white world like Kansas in The Wizard of Oz.
Joyce, I do remember a friend of mine was talking to his grandson, and his grandson said something about the gray days. He eventually figured out that his grandson thought the world used to all shades of gray because of looking at old photos.

This is the 14th Norwich Guide Company taken in 1961 in England.  I am second from the left on the front row. It was published in the local paper.

Christine, thank you for sharing your wonderful photo. Your uniforms are so interesting; you must have had a great time being part of this group of girls. You are darling in your uniform.
The socks! The berets! The little ties! What a fetching group of young ladies.
Thank you Alexis. Yes, it was fun being part of the group, especially when we went to camp for a week. It was only a few miles from the city on a farm, but we enjoyed sleeping in tents and cooking outdoors.
Thank you Sarah, nearly all girls in England wore berets like that in those days, they were part of school uniform as well as guide uniform, each school having their own colour.  The ties were made in such a way that you could turn them into a sling (for a broken arm) and one of the first things we learnt was how to fold and tie them for that purpose.

In late August of 1889 Doc and Jessie Kiddoo, with their 4 year old daughter Vannie, left their claim in Gove Co. Kansas to look for land in Iowa. Along the way they stopped to visit Jessie's grandmother, and the family went into Concordia and had a 4 generation photo taken

I was adopted and found my birth family in 2012 mostly living around me.  Turns out was the middle of 9 full siblings and 1 half sibling.  Only 2 boys in the group.  Still looking for 3 of my full sisters, birth names Beverly, Daisy and Elizabeth.  We all had closed adoptions and our names were not necessarily our birth names, so unless they DNA test (which I fish in all the DNA pools looking for the rest of my sisters).    Unfortunately due to the situation with our birth parents ,some had developmental issues, but they are all very loving and sweet.

The Brock girls in the 1960s. This is my great aunt Beady (Brock) Cain and her older sister and my grandmother, Madeleine S (Brock) Berryann. I debated using this photo for friends, because they were very close!
