Wigerius (W=V), as far as I can trace through the study of history, was the first, or 'founder', of a generation referred to historically as the "Barons of Beaugency", France. Beaugency is a town of ancient origins on the Loire River. My attempts have led me to believe (perhaps)...that V/Wigerius (some have called him 'Wigman', but it is actually of Latin origins meaning 'vigorus'...which actually meant he was probably a good soldier or fighting man)....history has also tweeked out some info. on his ancestors...seems he may have been of Visigoth and Roman ancestry....I have found hints in historical writings by Roman historians which connect him with a Roman general who was born in Iberia (now Spain), and then served in both Gaul (now France), and Britain. History states he married a widow of another general, and was the daughter of the Flavian gens (Roman family), which also was the same ancestry as some of the Roman Emperors.......
The Beaugency family descendants included one Hericius (or Herice) De Beaugency....history tells that one Ralf De Beaugency was an 'advisor' to William the Conqueror, while one of his sons accompanied Wm. across the channel and was involved in the Battle of Hastings.......the surname changed with time to De Heriez...and then HARRIS...[one, Sir Arthur Harris in the Elizabethan era built Creeksea Manor near Rochford, England].....one of his descendants was a member of the London Company, who developed Jamestown in the Virginia Colony (now the state of Virginia, USA).....either this man, or another son of Arthur Harris, historically states that 'his son immigrated with his wife to the Virginia Colony'.
