I created my "Last Name at Birth" with suffix. Editing warns that a new account will be created. More harm than good?

WikiTree profile: Bob Horn

Essentially - no harm.  What the system does is create a new profile with the correct last name at birth, and at the same time merge the existing profile to it.  It's done in seconds.  (Just be sure to make no typos.)  smiley

The problem could come in because you are a Member.  Your wikitree ID will change and you will not be able to 'easily' see your earlier contributions.  After doing it, make sure that you can log back in from an incognito browser window.

To see your earlier contributions, you can go to the Contributions on your new wikitree ID and change the URL to use your old wikitree ID.  If you have any problems logging in, send an email to info @wikitree.com

Hi Bob!  Welcome to WikiTree!

Yeah, what Melanie said.  Just Edit your Last Name at Birth to Horn and put typo for the why do you want to do this question.  You will get a new WikiTree ID, probably something like Horn-6633.
