Yippee for Jan Salsbery! My id at Wikitree is Smith-134334.

My pedigree does show descent from Rev. War veteran Robert Casteel, who is Casteel-7, although both his middle name (of which there is no proof) and purported parents are likely to be incorrect.

My DNA kit at GEDmatch A358292 is attached to my profile, as is the notation that my member name at Ancestry is l_mcconachie.

I'm in! My WIkiTree profile is Phelps-3330

I descend from John Casteel, Casteel-1071. Really not sure of his parents. My DNA kit on GEDmatch is M911018.

Thanks Jan!

I notice that the records of your earliest Casteel are spelled Castell.https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Casteel-1067

My great grandmother was a Castell descended from William, son of William and Frances, baptised in Yelvertoft, Northamptonshire, England Nov 1st  1651( take no notice of the ancestry transcription! https://www.ancestry.co.uk/sharing/21033459?h=4befb3&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url

I'm very much remiss, the oldest ancestor on that line on wikitree is: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Castell-42 but I've not done anything other than add sources.

The name seems to have a lot of origins in several parts of Europe.

(and  absolutely coincidentally, I also have Salsburys [ Salisburys] from a village 6 miles away)

If nothing else your post has made me look at some of my own family whose profiles are in dire need of work!
