I have just started a Kirkland one name study here on Wikitree.  Kirkland Name Study  Thanks to Steve Harris for getting this set up!

This study is for anyone researching the Kirkland surname anywhere in the world.  If you have a particular Kirkland group or area of interest, we can set you up with a 'team' to work on your particular group.  It is believed that 'my' Kirklands came from Scotland.

There is a team for researching Kirklands in Scotland here.

I know there were Kirklands in England also -- anyone interested?

My personal interest is in the Kirklands that were in the U.S. southern colonies. Richard Kirkland was in Maryland and then in Virginia.  His descendants moved to North/South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama (and other states).  I have started a team for Kirklands in the U.S. southern colonies.

Do you have a particular Kirkland family group that you would like to 'track' and organize to assist you with research?  Let's get you set up!

My grandmother was born Margie Nell Kirkland, she's from the GA Line of Kirkland's.  I have been working through Ancestry.com on and off since 2007 and keep getting stuck on [[Kirkland-2856|Snowden Kirkland]] so I am excited that there is a project going for this.

Hi Amy, I was just working on your line the other day.  I have both the Kirkland Source Book of Records (Vol. I and II) as well as Dr. Peacock's excellently researched and sourced book, Kirkland Family Roots, which he published in 2002.  It really is the 'bible' for this family.  My goal is to keep this line straight/correct here in Wikitree.  There is so much junk and wrong information/connections as relate to this family on ancestry that it's just horrible.  As long as I'm alive, I'll strive to keep this line right.  There are some families that I am pretty sure connect somehow into the line, but I don't have the inclination to try and sort them out (they weren't mentioned in Dr. Peacock's book, and it will take localized research of records to try and trace land, etc.).

Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.  I've researched this family over 20+ years and was in contact with Dr. Peacock during the course of writing his book.  I've pretty much taken up the torch since his death to keep the lineage correct.

Hi Sadie,

I see you are a Wikitree guest member at present.  I hope you will upgrade to a regular member and start adding your family to connect into the Wikitree.  I see there is a James Ambrose Pelham profile here.  And Lydia Kirkland has a profile here.  I am not sure if she was married to the Sr. or Jr. Pelham...

When starting with Wikitree, you should begin with yourself (already have a profile) and then add your parents, then their parents, then theirs, etc.  Be sure to always include at least one reliable source (something other than 'personal knowledge') such as a census or marriage record.

Hi Rhonda, we 'met' on ancestry recently!  Feel free to add your name and interests to the Kirkland One-Name Study page.  You can review the "How to Help" section for information on adding the category and sticker to Kirkland profiles to include them in the study.

Hello!  My husband's maternal line is Kirkland.  They are many generations deep in Kansas, but the line before KS picks up at Robert (b@1835) in AL, then John 1808 TN, Archibald, James 1754, Alexander 1717, and the last name I have in Ancestry is William from Scotland.  His family is not easy to get information from as they are a people who just do not talk much about the past or personal information.  Two of my sources for most of this information come from Dr. Peacock's book and the RootsWeb listing for Kirklandroots.  His DNA confirms as well.  I would love to participate!

Hi Michelle, I'd be happy to have you join.  You can add your name and interests on the Kirkland One-Name Study page.  You should then start adding your husband's line here at Wikitree and use the category and sticker on the Kirkland profiles.

We need to talk to discuss your husband's lineage from Archibald back. I have that line in my personal tree which I maintain at ancestry.com. James/Alexander/William are incorrect.   See Kirkland Family Roots, p. 91: "Earlier researchers mistakenly claimed the descendants of this John had a James Kirkland as their father rather than John Kirkland. The entry in KSB II, page 472 corrects this error. The issue of this John are listed in KSB II, page 483. They were: Archibald Kirkland, Daniel Kirkland, Robert Kirkland, James Kirkland, Jane Kirkland, Sarah Kirkland, Nancy Kirkland, and an unknown daughter."

I've worked researching the descendants of Robert and Richard Kirkland of Virginia for decades.  I actually provided information to Dr. Peacock while he was writing his book.  Since his death, I've 'taken up the torch' to continue the research and keep the lines straight.  There is a massive amount of incorrect information on ancestry and other websites.  I strive to keep the lines straight here at Wikitree, always using primary sources and reviewing both Jim's book as well as both volumes of the Kirkland Source Book of Records.

Thank you Darlene.  I will work on this correction today!

Michelle
