It might be that what Loretta was thinking about when she brought up my name is the Slade Name Study, which is about trying to add as many Slades to WikiTree as possible, and then see whether we can connect them all together or not. Some of the resources listed there might help you in your research. You might start with the Slade Genealogy site to see if your family is listed there. (If it's not, Jim would love it if you send him a GEDCOM so he can add them.)
I would like to second Shirlea's suggestion that you start building out your tree here as well. Because Ancestry is behind a paywall, many people (including me) can't see what's there, so we can't offer much help. Your next step, as I understand it, would be to sign the Honor Code, and once you've done that, you should be able to add and edit profiles besides your own.
Besides the sources on Ancestry, if you haven't already checked out FreeBMD, FreeCEN, and FreeREG, I recommend checking them out. They may have records that Ancestry doesn't. If you're willing to give them your birthdate (which I am not), FamilySearch also has a bunch of records. If you have the budget for it, the most useful of the pay sites that I have tried is Findmypast. In one free weekend, I managed to push almost all of my family lines back at least one generation. (Although since all my lines go back to the British Isles eventually, that probably shouldn't be a surprise.) There is also a site called RootsChat which doesn't have any trees or sources, but is more like G2G without the rest of WikiTree. But it's inhabited by a number of people who are absolute wizards at finding sources (at least within the UK). When I'm stumped, those are my go-to people.
