Traced a female ancestor it showed direct connections thru the male line now it's thru the female line, what happened?

More connections were added and the shorter route between them is now through the female line?  Without specifics it is hard to provide a definitive answer.

Or connections were removed on the female line.  Connections are always being added and removed, hopefully to correct things.
