Widened or resizable locations to prevent suggestions from being cut off

Location boxes run Javascript API queries in realtime to retrieve and present a drop-down menu of suggested completions or alternatives.

In the drop-down UI, there is a time range appended to the location which is extremely useful for showing the political/name changes associated with a location and selecting the correct (non-anachronistic) name for a location at the time in question. This is not input when the location is suggested.

The problem is that very frequently the full name extends past the width of the text input field. This isn't an issue for the name once entered since one can easily scroll left and right to see it (especially on desktop); but it is impossible to see the cut-off date range this way; there's no way to get that information from the normal web UI.

I'm not sure if it's easily technically possible to make the drop-down menu extend to the right to the maximum length of any entry when this is wider than the text box; that would be ideal.

Alternatively, making the text box wider, making it automatically dynamically widen to the width of the longest drop-down entry, or simply making it resizable would all be options that would make this information accessible. (Again, I'm not sure it's easily possible to make the location text box resizable only to the right and not make it a multiline text area instead of a text field.)

Of these alternate solutions, I think dynamically widening the text box to the width of the longest text field might be the friendliest.

What about just adding it as alt text?

I actually sent a message to tech team about this last week and got a response that they would look at making the location box wider when they were working on those pages the next time.  I found in some instances the location box is wide enough to show the dates, but in other instances it is not wide enough to show the dates at the far right.

Edited to include the email message I had sent to tech team.

I am seeing the 'US Colony' names sometimes in the Location drop down fields, but the drop down box is not wide enough to see the location and the dates on the right side on the 'Add Profile' page.  The dates and full location is visible on the 'Edit Profile' page, but not on the Add Profile page.  I did see a few locations that did not show the 'entire' date range on the Edit Profile page
As an example,  Westborough, Mass

I don't know why I only noticed this problem myself recently. However, I do have a temporary work around. If you click on the little map thing to left of the suggestions, you will be taken to FamilySearch (where the location suggestions are taken from in the first place) in a new tab. The FamilySearch site does explain the changes to the name of the location and the dates so you can make your choice.

Some of the place names and relevant dates suggested by the good people at FamilySearch can be very wide of the mark, so use the facility with care!
