Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Please remember to concentrate on those Notables who have already passed (died), so that we can see their profiles. If you create a profile for a living Notable, that profile WILL GO UNLISTED and no one can see it except for the PM and anyone on the trusted list!

And remember - Notables should have a Wikipedia page at the very least to qualify. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Whose Who or a NATIONAL Biography  is acceptable as well. And they should be DEAD!

If you manage a profile for any living notable, would you please replace any Notables categories on that profile with [[Category:Living Notables]]? That could clear out a lot of profiles that people can't work on from the various Notables categories, and also keep all the living notables in one place to make them easy to find, should the need arise.

It turns out that John French, the Dean of Elphin, has an entry on Wikipedia, so he's notable. (Somehow, I had missed noticing that before, even though his entry was created two years ago.) His profile is connected, but I haven't found any primary sources (which is a problem I run into all the time with his family, since they lived in Ireland).

Long time Cleveland Ohio weatherman Richard Duane Goddard died today. He has a profile, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Goddard-2245 , and is connected already, this should show up tomorrow morning, but his biography needs work. Due to failing eyesight I would appreciate any help you could provide.

He holds the Guinness World Record for longest career as a weather forecaster.

[Goodell-789|Rhoda Lavinia Goodell]  While recently working the Goodale/Goodell line in early Mass. I happened across her and her father's orphaned, unconnected profiles so I adopted them and made the tree connection which was way cool because her dad is my 3rd cousin. Small world. The purpose of me mentioning this here is to call to your attention the words of the Wisconsin Chief Supreme Court Justice who wrote about Rhoda in particular and womanhood in general when her application to practice before that August body was denied. Certainly at my age I have always been fully aware of the attitudes he expressed but never have I read words to that effect so neatly summarizing that particular frame of mind. :-)  Yet another excellent reason to be glad for living in the 21st c.

I created a profile for the former German president Richard von Weizsäcker. His wife is still living, so I don't know if I should create a profile for her or not.

by Jelena Eckstädt G2G Astronaut (1.4m points)
That is entirely your decision Jelena, but it will go black (unlisted) when you save it and noone else (except those on the trusted list)  will be able to see it.

Hey Notables Team, I need your help. I was finally able to find a officially sourced connection (in the German Biography, the German Who is Who) between Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg and his already connected great-grandfather.

The mother of Claus is Caroline von Üxküll-Gyllenband, she will show up as connected to her grandfather from tomorrow morning.

Success! I connected both Poison Ivy and her husband Lux Interior of the psychobilly rock 'n roll band The Cramps today. Lux's profile should show as connected once the database updates. He is deceased so his can be viewed, it's Purkhiser-20.

I connected a couple notables you have probably never heard of.

Gilbert Dayton Hedden, rich guy who sank most of his money into the "Money Pit" on Oak Island:

Lorenzo Milam, the Johnny Appleseed of community radio:

Kamala Harris is of course a living notable. Her father is also living and has a page on Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_J._Harris which lists his parents with a citation of a book by Kamala and also a Slave holding forebear who has not been proven : “ Harris was born in Saint Ann's Bay, Jamaica, as the son of Beryl Finnegan and Oscar Joseph Harris.[2] He grew up in the Orange Hill area of Saint Ann Parish, near Brown's Town.[3][4] Harris claims to be descended from slaveowner Hamilton Brown, the namesake of Brown's Town, a claim Snopes rated as unproven.[5]”

The Snopes article is dated 2019 https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/kamala-harris-ancestor-slaves/

It seems possibly worthwhile for some research to be done on Senator Harris’s tree. Neither of her paternal grandparents are on Wikitree.

Hamilton Brown 1776 - 1843 also does not appear to have a Wikitree profile but has a Wikipedia profile https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton_Brown

This link includes an essay on the Jamaican forebears of Kamala Harris written by her father Donald https://www.jamaicaglobalonline.com/kamala-harris-jamaican-heritage/

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brown-111883 Is One of Kampala’s great grandmothers

Her grandparents have very recently been added https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brown-111882 and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Finegan-97 note Wikipedia has names slightly incorrect

Been working on her tree today - the paternal (Jamaican) side.

Unfortunately someone created a profile for Kamala Harris' father and linked it to his grandfather (whose profile they also created - but then stopped with just those two).  I contacted the PM but have not received any reply.

Kampala’s mother’s profile has been created https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gopalan-13 and this has been linked to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Harris-42375 as her husband profile manager David Moore for the husband

Can you please share a link to anyone in her family tree that is not private ? Thanks

update: saw that it was done at the same time I was adding my request.

Her paternal line can be accessed by viewing her paternal grandfather Oscar Harris and paternal grandmother, Beril Finegan.

The mother has been linked to daughter https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Harris-37913, I assume Kamala.

I added Kamala's husband and her maternal grandfather and I have tried to link them all together. Not sure if this will work to show her family tree of deceased relatives ...

https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Harris-Family-Tree-37912

This view included her private father Harris-42375. But there is another man with the same name that may have been added in the wrong place and may need to be merged (have not heard back yet from the profile manager for Harris-34959).

Scott, are you able to see wheher the 2 Harris father profiles mentioned above are dups ?
From what I can tell, Harris-34959 was born in the 1940's where Harris-37912 was born in the 1930's, so it is highly unlikely they represent the same person. However, I can't see either of them, so we may need to wait for a response from the profile manager to be 100% certain.

I've been working on Alcatraz inmate Neil McCauley, the real-life inspiration for the character of the same name from Michael Mann's 1995 movie, Heat. If anyone would like to help connect him, that'd be great!

Connected. His big ears rival those of his comrade, The Birdman of Alcatraz:

I have stumbled on quite a few noteables in my tree and most are managed however I still manually check it all through for duplications and check lineage. I'd like to join as I am 30 degrees away from Henry VIII, Catherine Parr (plus Tudors and Plantagenets), Cecil B DeMille and Orville Wright.

Actor Ben Cross died today - 18 August 2020

Already posted to G2G - Dont know if he has a profile or not

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/ben-cross-dies-chariots-fire-175217460.html

I first saw him in Chariots of Fire.

I think I last saw him in the 2009 Star Trek Reboot movie.

I forgot he was Barnabas Collins in that mediocre remake they did of Dark Shadows in the 1990's.

Ben Cross has a profile now and family.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cross-9323

I've filled out what I can of Ben Cross's direct family and started work on his Otter line. Lots of family in this part of the tree, but no connections. Looks like I'll be branching over to the Stubbs now.

I believe I have a connection that should show tonight for Nasa's Katherine Coleman.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Coleman-6364

I'm still wishing I had a bit more to go on than to tie her to her white great-grandfather, but there's a reasonable amount of documentation to support the relationship and connection, and I am fairly certain that it's accurate. Always good to have a second opinion, if anyone wants to take a swing at it.
