How does DNA confirmation work exactly?

When I look at my line through the relationship tool, it says my line is not confident. The line is my father and his mother which of course makes all the connections on her line not confident. I've read the instructions on DNA confirm and I'm sorry, but I'm confused. It is confident my father is my father (good to know), but it doesn't feel confident his mother is his mother...My name is in the column on the right. How do I make a solid confirmation? I'm not typing the ID right...again. It's saying the ID does not exist...

K-r-a-m-e-r-155 Forcing the system to type the id...:p

Hi Amanda,

Kramer-155 does not exist. Is it maybe Kramer-755 (she's your paternal grandmother)?

It appears that the child-parent relationship status indicators are not all set between the 2 of you (one is "unknown" confidence). Here's the help page describing how to set the relationship status indicators (with links to pages for each of the possible values).

First thank you for correcting the ID no. The sun on my browser makes the screen harder to read.

and thank you for clarifying the editing my relationships. So, Confident is satisfactory because I'd be able to support it with evidence, but I'd not be able to give a DNA confirmation, right?

Glad to help! It's raining here, so I didn't have any problem with sunlight on my screen wink

Yes - if there are good sources on the profiles that support the relationship, you should be able to set the relationship status to confident.

If you eventually find DNA matches with which you share a common ancestor, you may be able to mark the associated relationships as "confirmed with DNA". When you're ready to pursue that, check out the DNA Confirmation Help Page and (for relationships with matches more distant than 3rd cousins) the Segment Triangulation Help Page. And you can post back here in G2G if you have any questions.
